On this project that I created, I used the layered masking stencils to create this colorful rainbow. Watch the video below to see how it all comes together!
I started by blending the rainbow using my blender brushes. You’ll notice there are two stencils, each with two arcs of the rainbow. The arcs are separated so that you can blend without getting ink on the arc directly next to it. The stencils also include alignment guides to easily center your A2 card or layer both vertically and horizontally.
After blending the different colored arcs, I stamped the patterns in Oreo ink over the top and added the Plum Punch heart in the center of the rainbow. I replaced one of the stencil layers and added Stickles Glitter Gel over the top, creating a bit of sparkle for two arcs of the rainbow.
I finished the project by die cutting and blending a few clouds and adding a sentiment embossed on Oreo cardstock with white embossing powder. Popping up the clouds and sentiment and adding a few white rhinestones gave the card the extra dimension and finishing touches it needed.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the different elements of the kit as well as some inspiration from our Creative Team and a few special guests! All of these products are only available as a part of the Somewhere Over the Rainbow Kit.
First up is the Masking Stencils – Rainbow collection. You already saw in the video how to use the pair of masking stencils to create a colorful rainbow.
Jill Hawkins also used the masking stencils to create this cute as can be rainbow! Her rainbow uses only 3 of the 4 arcs and I just can’t get over how she added the smiley face to make this a happy rainbow! She added the ‘oh happy day’ sentiment embossed on an Oreo cardstock strip and it’s the perfect finishing touch for this clean and simple design!
You know Heather Nichols had to create her rainbow on Toffee cardstock, right? Her rainbow uses all 4 arcs with Cherry Pop, Lemon Meringue, Peapod, and Cookie Monster inks. She added the fun stamped details with Sugar Cube ink over the top of the stenciled rainbow.
Speaking of stamps…
The kit includes two clear stamps sets: Over the Rainbow and Over the Rainbow Sentiments. Use the Over the Rainbow stamp set to add fun and whimsical patterns to your rainbows. The set also includes extra stars, hearts, a sweet smile, and a few fun sentiments. The Over the Rainbow Sentiments stamp set includes 6 different sentiments that are perfectly curved to follow the arc of the rainbow.
Kelly Lunceford had all sorts of fun stamping details over the top of her stenciled rainbow. She added a few patterns to the stenciled rainbow and sprinkled hearts above and below it. She added the cute smiley face to one of the clouds and the sweet typed hello to the other.
Lori Craig stenciled a pretty pastel rainbow and then added the polka dot patterns and a few hearts from the Over the Rainbow stamp set in coordinating colors. I love her soft, pastel rainbow!
There are two die collections included in the Somewhere Over the Rainbow Kit: Over the Rainbow and Rainbow Cloud Duo. Use the Over the Rainbow die to cut and assemble a rainbow from your favorite cardstock colors and/or patterned papers. The Rainbow Cloud Duo includes 2 clouds: one with a plain edge and one with pierced detailing.
I love this color combination that Laurie Willison used on her rainbow! She added her rainbow over a softy stenciled cloud background (dreamy!) and stamped a sentiment over the top.
Jill Hawkins used the Over the Rainbow die to make the cutest shaker card ever! She die cut the rainbow from Sugar Cube cardstock, backed it with some acetate, and filled her shaker with all sorts of sparkly, colorful goodness – Bits & Pieces – Rainbow Sprinkles, Bits & Pieces – Sparkly Stars, and Bits & Pieces – Full of Heart. Jill added the clouds with the pierced edge detail from the Rainbow Cloud Duo die collection and stamped the ‘hello’ sentiment on one of them. Plus, she didn’t forget her signature stitching!
I love this clever idea from Melody Rupple! She stamped hearts from the Over the Rainbow stamp set onto Sugar Cube cardstock in a rainbow of colors and die cut the rainbow right from the stamped piece. She added the die cut pieces back into the stamped piece, popping them up for an eclipse effect.
Finally, the kit includes 6 custom colored envelopes and a set of 6 envelope seal stickers. The six custom envelopes match the following cardstock colors: Cherry Pop, Candy Corn, Lemon Meringue, Granny Smith, Cookie Monster, and Jelly Donut. The cute envelope seals feature the rainbow and clouds from the kit and these durable, weatherproof stickers are perfect for sealing your envelopes and sharing joy with your handmade cards!
Jen Shults has the Granny Smith envelope all dressed up with the rainbow seal to coordinate with her rainbow card! Jen’s rainbow card is created with the Over the Rainbow die cut and added to a background that she stenciled with the Set the Scene – Clouds stencil strips and Here Comes the Sun stencil. I love Jen’s glittery clouds that are die cut from the Sugar Coated 100% Wool Designer Felt using the Rainbow Cloud Duo dies.
I will be unboxing the new rainbow kit during “T Time” at 1pm Central today on the Taylored Expressions Facebook Page and would love to have you join me! Hope to see you there!
