Center of Attention Product Spotlight & TESC87
Good morning! I’m so excited about today for several reasons…
1. It’s Friday! The end of another week…we all know how exciting that is!
2. It’s time for another sketch challenge!
3. The Baker’s Dozen and I have a totally sweet product at the Center of Attention today…Maya Mist & Crafter’s Workshop Stencils! There’s a sale too so keep on reading!
4. One of my best friends from college is coming to stay with me this weekend! This is what I love about being back in Iowa… reconnecting with friends! She is an amazing scrapbooker so I hope to learn something too! 🙂
5. I am so completely blown away by all of your submissions for the TESC86 sketch challenge! I’m going to have an incredibly difficult time choosing just three from among all the amazing entries. The deadline has passed in order to be considered for the sketch team, but you can always play along! Can you see why I’m excited!? In fact, I had trouble sleeping last night because of all the fun things going on today. So I better get on with this and maybe I can sneak in a little power nap before my friend arrives! Today the Baker’s Dozen and I are sharing our creations using the Center of Attention products, Maya Mist and Crafter’s Workshop Stencils. I know many of you probably haven’t tried these products which is why I’m so excited to share about them. I am in love!
The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils come in lots of fun patterns with endless possibilities for misting, tracing, sponging, piercing, and even embossing with paste. The stencils are 6″x6″ and made from a lightweight plastic (you can see the stencil underneath my rocket card in the picture above). I took this picture before I washed the stencil so it would show up better, but that’s one of the great things about these templates. They wash up quickly and easily with water…and maybe a little soap if you let the mist dry on the stencil before washing it. I started by stamping the rocket image (from The Places You’ll Go set) in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and cut it out with a circle Spellbinders die. Then I cut a rough mask for the rocket, moon, and stars. I placed the Cosmic Swirl stencil on top and then spritzed with Lemon Metallic Maya Mist. When I removed the stencil and the mask my image was preserved and ready to color with Copics! I used patterned papers and cardstock from The Places You’ll Go Key Ingredients for this card.
Now a little more about the Maya Mist. If you’ve tried Glimmer Mist, this product is similar. I’ve tried a lot of Glimmer Mist in the past, but ever since I tried the Maya Road Mist at CHA I’ve been sold! The coverage is better which requires you to use less of the product so it lasts longer…gotta love that! And the Maya Mist dries more quickly and doesn’t soak or ripple your cardstock or chipboard as much as I found with the Glimmer Mist. Something to note while you’re shopping at the store… the items with the word “Metallic” in them have the shimmer and color built into one mist. Or you can purchase your colors and metallics separately so you can choose whether you want the metallic shimmer or not.

caffeine too early in the morning. I still have another project I want to share with you and I’m realizing that this post is going to be suuuuuuuuuuper long!
For my next card I decided to use the Daisy Cluster stencil. I started by laying the stencil over the top of Choice Buttercream cardstock and misting with Lime Metallic Mist. As I removed the stencil from the cardstock I realized that there was a lot of mist leftover on the stencil from my spritzing. So I decided to make a reverse image of the stencil by laying cardstock over the top of the mist leftover on the stencil. It wasn’t perfect, but I loved the imperfection of it (which totally isn’t like me…the classic Type A perfectionist)!
So I ran with it and ultimately came out with what I think is a really pretty patterned paper! I replaced the stencil back over the top and used that as my guide to color in the open parts of the pattern with Copic markers. I also went back and highlighted the flowers with Taffy Smooch. So naturally I couldn’t just leave the pretty paper to sit on my desk for an eternity. I had to use it to create another card for the sketch (which is why this post is so long!).
And here’s what I came up with! I used the Fresh Flowers stamp set along with a sentiment from A Year of Sweet Sentiments. I also used the Stitch Doodle Dot template for the straight faux stitching around the edge and the scalloped faux stitching along the bottom. The ribbon is 5/8″ pink polka dot and the buttons are from my stash. I also misted the bottom panels with the Daisy Cluser stencil…a little Lime Green Metallic Mist over Sunflowers Medium cardstock. That’s it for my cards, but there’s more you should know about today!
