Baby’s 1st Valentine
This card is for a coworker whose sister just had a baby boy a few weeks ago. She wanted a Baby’s 1st Valentine card for the baby book and I needed a reason to use my new Bundle of Joy set! 🙂 I’m a sucker for baby sets and I just had to have it! The card base is Barely Banana stamped with the Linen background in So Saffron. Banana ink on Banana cardstock wasn’t giving enough contrast. I stamped the bear image on watercolor paper and watercolored it with an aquapainter. And can I make a confession? I stink at watercoloring! I sit down with my aquapainter/watercolor crayons and have no idea where to start. I would love to take a real watercolor class someday, but now is just not the time. So you will all have to suffer through my bad watercoloring. 😉 Just in case you’re in the same boat, I have seen several tutorials/tip sheets when it comes to watercoloring. I’ll link a few here in case you’re looking for some extra reading on the subject.

There is also a plethora of threads on Splitcoaststampers discussing various watercoloring methods (crayons, pencils, aquapainter & ink) as well as tips and tricks. On with the card details…I faux stitched around the entire image and mounted it on dimensionals. The patterned paper is by Wild Asparagus. The heart in the bear’s hands is from Like it a Latte and I covered it with Crystal Stickles. I used the horizontal slot punch to thread the twill and ribbon through the image. I can’t remember where I got the cute pacifier charm, but I think they sell them at Michael’s. I hope she likes it!
