Blog Design Team: Lavender Mother’s Day
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we are thrilled to share today’s project with you. Blog Team Designer Julia Stainton has created a lovely watercolor card that truly honors mothers everywhere.
To help you create something wonderful for a mother in your life, we’re giving away a $25 gift certificate to the TE Store! Keep reading for details…
And now, let’s hear from Julia about her project…
Mother’s Day is always a beautiful occasion to celebrate. Being a mom, I
love the little handmade tokens I often get from my youngest children
and always hope to spend the day with as much of my family as possible. My own dear mom is no longer with me, but I cherish each memory and am
thankful to still have my mother-in-law to celebrate each year. This
card was designed for her.
Lately I’ve been enjoying
watercoloring as a technique on many paper craft designs. It’s such a
wonderful and forgiving medium to play with and I love how quickly it
dries. I like to add in color and build it up gradually. If you add too
much color, it’s easy to blot up with a paper towel before it dries.
Watercoloring
is best done on watercolor paper as it absorbs the water and allows the
pigment to move freely. To watercolor you can use liquid tube
watercolor, dry watercolors or even the ink from your ink pads. Play
around with different types to see what you like best.
To create
the background for this design, I embossed a piece of Salt Water Taffy
cardstock using the Leafy Vines Embossing Folder. It’s such a pretty,
classic design and you can use either the front or the reverse side of
the embossing depending on the look you want. For this project, I’ve
turned it over and used the reverse for a subtle look.
To add in
the sentiment, I stamped the “Happy Mother’s Day” stamp from the Lavender
Bouquet set onto a strip of vellum cardstock and then wrapped it around
my image panel to secure it. (Tip: When stamping on vellum, the ink needs to
be heat set with a heat gun so that it doesn’t smear.)
