Blog Design Team: A Grumpling Birthday to You!
Happy hump day, crafty friends! Today, Blog Team Designer Lisa Henke has a grumpily happy birthday card that is sure to get you grinning. We can’t wait to share it with you!
And now, here’s Lisa to tell us all about her project…
Today I have a festive birthday card with another appearance from
those Party Grumplings! One of my favorite things about card making is
getting to personalize any card you want. When I sat down to create this
one, I knew it was going to be for my amazing husband. His birthday is
next week and I used a trio of grumplings to represent our three boys!
I
started with a panel of watercolor paper and used my Zig
Clean Color Brush markers to make a soft color wash in blues and greens.
I am no watercolor expert, but with these markers there are lots of
easy techniques you can do to achieve a watercolor look. Here, I brushed
on stripes of color with 4 different markers, added some water with a
large paint brush and moved the color around until I got the look I was
going for. (The hardest part is waiting for the panel to dry, so I like
to speed up the process with a heat gun.)
While I
waited for the panel to completely dry, I moved on to coloring my
Grumplings. I stamped them onto Copic Blending cardstock and I used my copics
to color them up. I added shading details by adding dots of color around
some of the edges. I like to do this with animals, especially since it
can give a look of fur. The coordinating Party Grumplings Dies were handy to cut
them out.
I grounded my birthday trio with a strip of
Build a Scene 6×6 paper and tucked in a festive edge from Build a Tag 5.
I added some clear embossed stars from All Star Accents and, while I had
that set out, I decided to use the birthday sentiment. The font was
just perfect for my ‘guy’ card. I used foam dimensionals to attach my
paper strip and Grumplings and then finished off the card with some
enamel dots and silver star sequins from the Build a Scene Halloween Sequins.
Thank you for sharing this perfectly fun birthday card with us, Lisa! We know your husband will be having a great party. You can find more of Lisa’s fabulous work on her blog, My Little Creative Escape. Have a joyful day!
