Blog Design Team: A Well-Stocked Card Pantry
Hey, hey, crafty friends! Today, Blog Team Designer Julia Stainton has crafted a beautiful get well card using die-cuts and vellum. If you are feeling under the weather, this card will certainly inspire you to getting better soon!
And now, let’s hear from Julia about her project…
The Fall and Winter seasons bring many wonderful things, but colds are
not one of them. It seems almost inevitable that I’ll get at least one
each year. Which has me thinking ahead to creating a few get well cards
to have on hand. I know I’m going to need them!I think
get well cards are like a little ray of sunshine for the person that receives one, and so I wanted to
create one that was bright and cheery, as well as pretty. To start, I
created a beautiful background using some lovely distress ink colors.
To do this, I sponged Worn Lipstick, Squeezed Lemonade and Dried Marigold
Distress inks onto a Sugar Cube Cardstock background layer.After
getting a beautiful blend of saturated color, I then added some extra
interest by flicking water from a paintbrush over the inked surface.
This lets the colors bleed and adds some pretty water marks. Next up was
to layer on a beautiful vellum die-cut that was cut out using the Bold
Lace Cutting Plate. Vellum can be tricky to adhere, so it is stitched in
place on my sewing machine.To create the focal image of this
design, I die-cut a couple oval layers from vellum and Sugar Cube
Cardstock. On the inner Sugar Cube layer, I then die-cut the Silhouette
Stems One die. I have a lovely positive shape left to use on another
project. The vellum and Sugar Cube ovals were then adhered together and
stamped with the sentiment. A few pretty embellishments finished it off.Do you like to work ahead and have cards on hand to give away? If so, which occasions do you like to stockpile?
