Happy, happy, Friday, crafty friends! Today, Blog Team Designer Julia Stainton has crafted the most darling home decor project to get you ready for the upcoming holiday season! Check it out below…
And now, let’s hear from Julia about her project…
Warm cozy felt and the holidays just seem to go together. They are a
perfect match! I love creating home decor projects for Christmas and,
this year, I was inspired to make a felt embroidery hoop project.The
gorgeous Sweater Weather Cutting Plate is one of my absolute faves.
It’s so warm and cozy and the detail in it is just stunning. I started
out this project by die-cutting the Marshmallow Wool Felt with the
Sweater Weather plate and an extra metal shim to make sure I got I nice
clean cut. It was then laid on top of a piece of Heather Grey Felt to
provide a nice background contrast.Felt is really easy to
embroidery on and instead of using adhesive, I stitched the felt pieces
right onto the project. The embroidery hoop will also help hold it all
together, too. Place both layers of felt into the embroidery hoop,
pull taut without distorting the felt, and secure the clasp. On each of
the geometric flower die cuts I stitched a French knot which helped add
texture and secure the two layers together.The Poster Graphic
Alpha is a beautiful alphabet and to create a sentiment focal point, I
die-cut the letters to spell “NOEL” from Caribbean Wool Felt. These
letters were placed onto the project and then secured with more French
knots in a dark red floss to look like winter berries. Honestly, this
project comes together so much quicker than you might think. I was
surprised at how quickly the stitching went!To finish off the project, simply trim away excess felt from the reverse side and the hoop is ready to hang and enjoy!
