Blog Design Team: A Roly Poly Giveaway!
Happy Tuesday, craft friends! Today Blog Design Team member, Sharon Harnist has got a Christmas craft that you will not want to miss re-creating!
To help get you started, we are having a giveaway! Keep reading for details on what awesome prize you can win!…
Now let’s hear from Sharon about her project…
Hi, Friends! With school being out soon for the holidays, I wanted to share a
fun project that can be created with/by kiddos that I’m sure they will enjoy. These coasters would make great teacher or hostess gifts, too! So get out your
adorable Roly Poly dies and Taylored Expressions‘ 100% Wool Felt and let’s get started!
When making coasters, I like to keep them totally flat so drink glasses or
mugs won’t topple off them. To do that, you will need to adjust your die-cutting method just a little so all the felt pieces are inlaid. This means you
will cut all the different colors of felt pieces you would normally need for the
coasters and then also cut that same space OUT of the body so the other colored
felt shapes can be placed/inlaid into the vacant spaces.
To assemble the coasters, cut an additional second largest Stitched
Circle on which to adhere all of the pieces, using fabric glue.
Pieces that hang off the main circle (hands, arms, etc.) can be glued to the
back of the coaster, so the front remains flat. For hats, antlers and ears, I
cut a small bottom portion of the die out of the front piece of the
face/head.
Here’s how Rudolph and Santa turned out:
Felt colors used:
Rudolph:
Chocolate Chip (body), Latte (antlers), Marshmallow (tummy, bells,
eyes, spots), Red Hot (harness & nose), Black Licorice (eyes).
Santa: Red
Hot (suit, hat), Cherry Blossom (face–could also use Khaki), Cotton
Candy (cheeks), Marshmallow (beard, eyebrows, hat trim), Black Licorice
(eyes, gloves, belt, shoes), Butter (belt buckle).
And here are Snowman and Penguin:
Felt colors used:
Snowman: Marshmallow (body), Grass Green
(scarf, hat trim), Black Licorice (hat, eyes, buttons, boots), Cherry
Blossom (cheeks), Persimmon (nose), Red Hot (gloves).
Penguin: Marshmallow (body), Black Licorice (body, hands, eyes, hat topper), Grass Green (hat), Persimmon (nose, feet).
I hope you’ll have as much fun as I did creating these holiday coasters!
