Blog Design Team: Let it Snow (within reason!)
Hey there, crafty friends! Is it snowing in your neck of the woods? Well, if it is, we hope you stay warm, safe, and dry. And, what better way to spend a snow day inside than to do a little cardmaking? Or, if you’ve got a friend buried under the snow, make a card to send to her to warm up her day! Today, Blog Design Team member Lisa Henke has got a sample that will warm you up quick…
And now, here’s Lisa to tell us all about her project…
It’s the middle of January, and outside it’s cold and a bit dreary. To cheer things up, I thought it
would be nice to share a happy wintry hello card with you all. What’s
better than a “just because” card. It’s fun to surprise someone, well, just
because! I had so much fun mixing and matching textures and dies and
stamps on this one. There is a little bit of everything on this card.
Let me break it down for you.I started with the adorable Mischief Maker-Ice, Ice, Baby.
It had been awhile since I pulled out my Copics to color, so I enjoyed
the creative process of making her pretty. Color therapy is all the
rage, lately. I love the mix of blues and greens for this wintry card. Above are the markers I used today.Next I did a little
water coloring with my Zig Clean Color Brush Markers. I laid down some
brush strokes with two different shades of blue onto some Water Color
cardstock. Then I activated it with some water to spread it out and
create the pretty watercolored background. Once it was dry, I went
back over it with some spatters of the same blue colors of ink. I cut
the panel down to 4 x 5.25 and distressed the edges. Finally, I gave it a quick
stitch around the border for another element of texture.I cut out a couple of snowflakes with the Make a Snowflake die and then used the Pocket & Pages-Circle Words to cut out the ‘hello’ word from some Pea Pod cardstock. Next, I thought a little glitter was the perfect thing to brighten up this wintry card, so I cut out the scalloped Frame in Frame die from glitter cardstock. The final detail I added before I started layering all the pieces was to stamp the sentiment in white embossing powder.
I got busy putting all the bits together. I started with the water
colored panel and then added the glitter frame on top. I added some foam
dimensions to the Mischief Maker-Ice, Ice Baby image and added
her to the left of the sentiment. I then tucked in the blue snowflakes
and the green Circle Hello die cut. I tied on some green twine and
finished off with my favorite Lily White Dooblebug Sprinkles. I mounted the finished panel on a Salt Water Taffy cardbase.
Thank you for sharing this cute card with us today, Lisa, and for reminding us that sometimes the best cards are sent ‘just because!’ You can find more of Lisa’s fabulous work on her blog, My Little Creative Escape. Have a joyful day!
