Today’s video is from Joy Baldwin and she is sharing three card projects that she created with the elements of the In the Abstract Kit + add-on Branch Out die collection. Watch the video below to see how these cards come together:
In the video, Joy shares how to use the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear set to create backgrounds/design bases for her cards. She uses the stencils and stencil inserts to create different abstract shape arrangements for each card. Joy uses the clear stamps from the set to stamp and emboss details onto the stenciled designs. The sentiments are stamped and/or embossed from the Beautiful Soul stamp set and Joy added extra texture and dimension to each of her cards with the Subtle Sprigs die collection from the kit and the Branch Out die collection that is available to purchase separately.
Here’s a closer look at each of the projects that Joy created in the video:
Even though the shapes in the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set are not designed to be anything in particular, it’s fun to turn the shapes into familiar images! Joy used a few of the stenciled shapes as an orange and lemons for this card. The leaves, dots, and circle details are embossed in gold using the included clear stamps. I really love the textured detail that Joy added using the Subtle Sprigs dies around the border of this card. She cut the shapes from Sugar Cube cardstock and then added them around the edge of a Sugar Cube card base to create the textured, tone on tone look.
For this card, Joy created an arrangement of abstract shapes in the background with Blue Corn, Sprinkles, and Honey inks. Playing around with the abstract shapes and different color combinations is very fun and you can also experiment with masking and layering the different colors and shapes together. The other part I love is that there aren’t any rules when arranging shapes and stamping the extra details! Joy layered one of the stem designs from the Subtle Sprigs die collection from the kit over the background cut out from Oreo cardstock and embossed the ‘you are not alone’ sentiment from the Beautiful Soul stamp set in gold.
On this last card, the background is stenciled and stamped with the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set and Joy layered the die cuts from the add-on Branch Out die collection over the top that are cut out from vellum. I love the textured look that the translucent branches add to the design! The ‘you’ve been on my mind’ sentiment from the Beautiful Soul stamp set is embossed in gold on a piece of Sugar Cube cardstock and layered onto the card.
Refer to the list below for all of the supplies that Joy used on her projects:
Now, let’s take a closer look at the different elements of the kit as well as more inspiration from the TE Creative Team. Note: Most of these items are only available as part of the In the Abstract Kit.
Creating abstract shapes and designs on your projects has never been easier with the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set! There are 8 different abstract shapes that you can use to create your own arrangements and designs using your blender brushes, glitter pastes, or other mediums. The stencil inserts are included for even more stenciling/masking possibilities! Add detail and dimension to your designs using the seven different clear stamps included in the set.
Have fun combining color, shape, and texture like Jill Hawkins did on this pair of cards. Jill stenciled the shapes using the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set using Sweet Potato Pie, Avocado, and Plum Punch inks (a fun color combo I think I would like to play around with!) and added the stamped details with Mushroom ink. One thing I really like about Jill’s card is that the style is not too modern feeling and it fits her style. She even added in all of her signature touches like the scalloped Frame in Frame 2 Cutting Plate, stitching, and splatters! Abstract art might feel like it’s too out there on the modern end, but in reality it can work with so many different styles and color palettes!
Here’s another look at taking the abstract shapes in the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set and turning it into something familiar for your projects. Melody Rupple saw an orange, lemon, and pear! She added the leaves stamped with the clear stamps in the set along with a few polka dot clusters embossed in gold. The Bits & Pieces – Gold Drip Drops scattered throughout the design are a great finishing touch along with the peeks of gold at the top and bottom of the card and edges of the sentiment!
I am pretty sure my jaw dropped when I saw this card by Kavya that she created using the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set – isn’t it amazing? Make sure to stop by her blog for a closer look! She started with Sugar Cube cardstock to stencil the shapes of color around the card, using the stencil inserts to do masking where things overlap. She used the stencil inserts again to mask off the colorful shapes and add the dark blue background. The details stamped with the clear stamps and the sentiment from the Beautiful Soul stamp set are embossed in white and Kavya added more details and touches using a white gel pen. The whole look is just amazing and I really want to try and see if I can recreate the look!
The Subtle Sprigs die collection includes two outline botanical leaf sprig designs. Cut the designs from cardstock to layer over the abstract designs stenciled with the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set, use the die cuts as a mask for stenciling, or use the die cuts on their own.
I love the rustic look on this card by Annette Allen. She stenciled the shapes from the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set in Djion, Oreo (using a light touch), and Sugar Cube inks and then added the stamped details with Oreo ink. I really like how the shape stenciled with Sugar Cube ink looks like a layer of vellum! The sprigs from the Subtle Sprigs die collection are cut out from Sugar Cube cardstock and layered over the top of the abstract background design and I love how they stand out. The sentiment is stamped at the bottom of the design in Oreo Ink, overlapping the die cut stems.
Jill Hawkins used the stems in the Subtle Sprigs die collection for a card with a more traditional/non-abstract card. I know I can see myself using the stems in this die collection and from the Branch Out die collection (I’ll share more about that set shortly) for projects with a botanical look that aren’t necessarily an abstract design. She cut out the stems from Sweet Potato Pie cardstock and added insets into the openings cut out with Djion cardstock. The background of the card is stamped using the Shiplap Background stamp with Mushroom ink on Sugar Cube cardstock and cut out with a Petite Scallop Rectangle Stacklets die. There’s layer of vellum over the background to soften the look that Jill secured in place with a bit of stitching at the top and burlap twine wrapped around the bottom.
Add the perfect, heartfelt sentiments to your projects with the Clearly Crafty Beautiful Soul stamp set. The set includes 13 different sentiments featuring a combination of script and typewriter fonts that will coordinate well with so many different project styles and themes.
Emily Mydlowski is showing off several of the sentiments from the Beautiful Soul stamp set on this set of cards created with the In the Abstract kit. This set of cards would be great to package together for a gift, but also the design is a great one to make multiples of for adding to your card stash. Stencil the shapes in the background, add stamped details, layer a die cut stem over the top cut from Toffee cardstock (Emily used stems from both the Subtle Stems dies in the kit and the add-on Branch Out dies), add a stamped sentiment, and finish them off with a few Bits & Pieces – Clear Drip Drops.
The kit includes two of our Bitty Blender Brushes. Our Bitty Blender Brushes are the most adorable crafting tools ever! Just like our full-size Blender Brushes, these brushes offer superior control and exceptional blending for all of your paper crafting projects, with flexible handles and our signature fine, white bristles that are specially designed for ink application. But their smaller size and brush head make them ideal for detailed ink blending on smaller areas or with intricate patterns.
The In the Abstract Kit includes a container of Black Rhinestones that you’ll love using to accent your designs! The rhinestones to add the perfect finishing touch on your project for extra sparkle and shine.
The In the Abstract Kit includes 6 envelopes and 6 custom envelope seals that coordinate with the theme of the kit. The six A2 envelopes are Toffee, Poppy Seed, Sweet Basil, Avocado, Salt Water Taffy, and Oreo. The coordinating envelope seals are made from durable, weatherproof material and are sure to bring a smile to the recipients of your cards.
Just like with all of our kits, additional In the Abstract Envelope Seals are available to purchase in packages of 10.
We are also offering a coordinating die collection that is an additional kit add-on purchase option:
The Branch Out die collection includes two different outline botanical dies: a berry branch and a leafy branch design. Both designs coordinate well with the Subtle Sprigs die collection included in the In the Abstract kit. Cut the designs from cardstock to layer over the abstract designs stenciled with the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set, use the die cuts as a mask for stenciling, or use the die cuts on their own.
The leafy branch from the Branch Out die collection cut out from gold foil cardstock is just stunning on this card by Jen Shults. The background is stamped and stenciled using the Abstract Accents Stencil & Clear Stamp Combo set with Sweet Basil and Confetti Cake inks. Jen layered vellum over the top of the background and added polka dots from the clear stamp set embossed in white and the sentiment from the Beautiful Soul stamp set embossed in black before layering the gold leafy branch over the top.
Noriko Fairchild used both the Subtle Sprigs and Branch out die collections to create masks for the background of this card. She cut out the stems from stamping mask paper, arranged them onto a piece of Sugar Cube cardstock, and then added ink blending in pinks and blues over the top. Once the blending was done, Noriko removed the masks and then added more detail by stamping the polka dots with Sugar Cube ink, embossing the circle swirl in white, adding the lines embossed in gold, and adding lots of splatters. She left an opening near the center of her design to stamp the sentiment from the Beautiful Soul stamp set in Oreo ink.
