Add Shimmer & Shine With NEW Foil It Products!
Hey, crafty friends! It’s Heather here and today I have a project to share with you that I created with one of the new Foil It products that debuted in the TE webstore this week. Have you tried out foiling yet on your paper crafting projects? I am loving the magic of seeing the foiled images when I peel off the Deco Foil sheets after they have gone through my Minc machine. Being able to add shimmer and shine to my projects gives me another way to step things up and my card recipients are impressed with the effect!
If you haven’t checked out the new Foil It products, click below. Then keep scrolling for today’s inspiration!
For today’s video, I created Mini Slim cards (3.5″ x 6″) with the new Foil It – Seasonal Spring panels. While the Seasonal Sprig products were originally designed for winter/Christmas themed projects, the berry branch can be colored in a number of ways to be used throughout the year. Watch the video below to see how I created both of these cards from start to finish:
In the video, I show how I foiled the Foil It – Seasonal Sprig panels with Pewter Deco Foil using my Minc machine. I added color to the panels with Copic markers along with splatters using Copic Opaque White ink and Chocolate Truffle liquid watercolor. I added the panels to Toffee Mini Slim Side Fold card bases (You can make your own Mini Slim card bases by cutting a piece of cardstock 7″ x 6″ and folding in half for a finished 3.5″ x 6″ card base). The sentiments are stamped with the Handlettered Thanksgiving stamp set, cut out with the coordinating dies, and added to the card with an additional Toffee cardstock die cut offset to create a shadow effect. The finishing touch is a few Bit & Pieces – Clear Drip Drops scattered across the card.
Silver and gold foil are probably the most popular when it comes foiling images, but have fun trying out other foil colors too! For this set of cards, I used a pewter color which gives the image a dark silver look. Foiling is a challenge to capture in a photograph, but in the video you can see the shine when the card panels are tipped back and forth.
You can color the berry branch images using the Mini Slim Seasonal Sprig Layering Stencil set, but you can use other color mediums to color on the panels too. I chose to color the images for my cards with Copic markers. The panels are printed on our Sugar Cube Cardstock which works wonderfully with them. You could also use other types of markers or colored pencils (just a reminder that watercolor is not recommended on our Sugar Cube cardstock).
For the card on the top, I colored the berry branch with green tones for the leaves and purple tones for the berries. I added the ‘give thanks’ sentiment to the card, but this color combination would be lovely for a card for occasions throughout the year. To give the berry branch a fall look, I colored the leaves with yellow and orange tones and the berries in red. Experiment with different color combinations to see what looks you can create for different occasions!
Check out the list below for all of the supplies that I used on my cards:
Here’s another Mini Slim card featuring a Foil It – Seasonal Sprig panel that isn’t a holiday themed card. The panel is foiled in silver and color is added with Copic markers. The leaves are done in green tones and the berries in peachy pink colors. Blending is added around the edges of the panel to soften the look that is perfect for the ‘praying for you’ sentiment from the Handlettered Sympathy stamp set. The sentiment is embossed in white on Sweet Basil cardstock and added onto the card layered onto a vellum circle.
