Lookie what I got!!!

I am just beside myself with excitement! I bought m’self a little gift last night. *grin* I’ve been wanting to try Prismacolor Markers for a long time now, and I couldn’t resist the sale at Dick Blick Art Store. I got the 72 marker set (only 48 are pictured) for $129.95. I feel like I got a good deal, but if I didn’t please don’t tell me… it’ll just make me feel more guilty about my splurge! LOL! So what are Prismacolor Markers, you ask? Prismacolor markers are different from regular markers in that they are solvent-based ink meaning they don’t leave behind the streaks you get from coloring with regular markers. The solvent-based ink makes it possible to blend the colors together and the ink is fade and water-resistant as well. They also sell a colorless blending pen (which I haven’t purchased yet). I’ve heard these markers have a steep learning curve, and I’m at the bottom! I colored my first image last night and I have a long way to go! They are fun to use just for coloring, but I’d sure like to be able to do the shading/blending too! I think I need more colors! *wink*

On another note, those of you who come on Friday’s expecting to see a cupcake card, I have an explanation. I love doing cupcake Friday and it is by no means being discontinued! However, with all the other deadlines looming right now I just can’t throw another one in the mix. I hope you understand and check back each day, because you never know when a cupcake could be thrown in the mix.! I do plan to pick up on cupcake Friday when life slows down again (or is that wishful thinking?? LOL!).

I hope you all have a blessed Easter! We will be heading down to my parent’s for church and Easter dinner. You can bet that I will be indulging myself with sweets galore since I gave them up for Lent. Here’s what I have planned so far… Peeps, Jelly Beans (I bought 3 bags!), Dark Chocolate covered Macadamia nuts, Samoas (Girl Scout Cookies), my mom’s famous pecan pie, and finish it all off with a warm fudgy brownie and ice cream on top! YUM! I think I might get sick before I get all of this in my mouth, but it’s fun to dream! *snicker*

    I saw a set of these at Joann’s on clearance-a smaller set I think. I dont like markers because I am a messy person. I do have the complete set of Primacolors pencils and I bought the blender pencil because my artist friend told me to. I dont like it. I like using gamsol. Let us know what you think of the markers. BTW-when I got my set of pencils, they were 40 % off and then I had a 5.00 off coupon. But it got better-all clearanced red sticker stuff was another 30% off AND it came with a bonus box of lightfast colors (24) and a metallic pack of 12. So normal price was 150.00 for the set and I got all this for……..57.00 greenies. or chargies sounds better! I just dont like the metal boxes and am looking for something else to store the in. What a country!

    They do look like cool markers even though they are “pricey” I hope you have a blast using them. I too have missed Cupcake Friday but will be patient and wait for it’s return. Happy Easter, Ida

    OMGosh I am so glad you got these. I bought 24 of them a few weeks back and am having a ton of trouble with them. They seem to bleed the black ink of the image I am coloring in, even when I used stazon. Can you hear me begging for a tutorial???? **wink**

    Hey Taylor, when I was in art school umteen years ago, we used the Prismacolor markers. I used them as the base color and then used colored pencils over them. The markers really made the pencil color sharp. I will try to dig up one of my samples and will email a pic to you. Good luck and have fun!

    I think you got a good deal – Mike’s sells a pkg of 24 for $90, just to give an example (granted, who goes there without their 40% coupon, but still). I’d love to hear all of the trials/errors you have with those markers because it helps me learn more!

    Grrr…my last post didn’t “take”, lol!!!

    I have some Prismas markers too, but not that many!! I’m wayyyy too cheap to buy a whole set at once!! I have the blender as well, & it does appear to take lots of practice ~~ lol ~~ but it’s so much fun learning!!!

    Have a great Easter, don’t overload on the goodies though or your tummy will be yellin’ at you!
