I know… I know… I’m sure you’re probably thinking FINALLY!! Sorry it has taken me so long to post these instructions. I’ve had other things that needed to take priority until last night. Here goes… I will do my best to explain with words and photos, but I certainly wish I could just show each of you in person!
STEP 1: You will need one letter size (8.5″ x 11″), left tab manila file folder (also known as the 1st tab position). Open the folder so that the tab is in the top right corner.
STEP 2: Fold the bottom of the folder up approximately 4″ to create the pockets. When you fold the bottom up, the left side of the folder will match up exactly with the cut out tab. That’s how you know you’ve folded up enough.
STEP 3: I drew a black line down the center for folding reference, but you don’t need to do that. You want to fold the left side toward the center until the straight part touches the center line. This part is very important… the tabbed portion will overlap the center line! Just make sure the upper portion is even with the center of the file folder.
STEP 4: Fold the center of the file folder in the opposite direction as pictured.

STEP 5: Fold the right side over to the left side until the “binding” (the right side) matches up. You will notice on my finished sample that the folding doesn’t come out completely even. However, it is important that the binding of the book matches up.

STEP 6: Flip the book over (this will be the front) and finish it with patterned papers, stamps, and embellishments. When you’re ready to tie the book closed, just use an Xacto knife to cut a slit in the back cover of the book. Slide the ribbon around the back of the book and tie in the front. Here’s my finished sample again:
