Happy World Cardmaking Day! Today is a day to celebrate the hobby that we all love and what better way to celebrate than by kicking off a whole month of challenges in our forum!? After all, cardmaking is more than just one day a year, especially when you make a card for people you love.

When I started making cards several years ago, I loved sending them out knowing they would put a smile on someone’s face and brighten their day. These days I find that I make more cards than I get in mail. I just need that extra little nudge to grab an envelope and a postage stamp! And that’s what the stamp ‘n send challenges are all about! We want you to use your creative talents and crafty supplies to make a card and send it out. How easy is that!? Each Saturday we’ll have a challenge to get you started and there are a bunch of fab prizes up for grabs to those who participate throughout the month!

For every card you make AND send (we’re trusting you to actually get those cards in the mail) you’ll be entered into a drawing for a spiffy prize. Plus, for EVERY entry, you will be entered into a drawing for a Grand Prize package worth $100 to help you make more cards! So what are you waiting for? Today’s challenge is to send some sunshine to someone in a nursing home, hospital, or in the armed services. To help get you started we have a fabulous sketch from our own Baker’s Dozen sketch-anista, Jen Shults!

Here’s the card I created with Jen’s sketch and A Bushel & A Peck stamp set:

I started by stamping the images in Memento Espresso Truffle ink and coloring them with Copics. I also added Glossy Accents to the centers of the sunflowers and paper pieced the bucket. The patterned papers are from the This & That Charming 6×6 pad. I also added some liquid pearl dots, ribbon, and natural burlap twine to the card. After gluing it all together I thought “Hmmm… maybe I should have distressed that image panel.” Oh well, I like how it turned out anyway!

Splitcoaststampers is currently hosting the Hope You Can Cling To event for breast cancer awareness month. Card donations are being accepted for patients at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and that’s where my card will be going this week. They prefer for cards to be black inside so that visitors may write them out for patients. Here’s the address if you’re looking for somewhere to mail your card this week:
