Taylored Expressions August Spotlights: A Teacher Gift
Hey there! Our August release kicked off yesterday, but the Baker’s Dozen and I just couldn’t pass up one more day of inspiration! Today is our Spotlight Day where designer’s choice takes the stage. Each of us is using what makes us happy (well, everything makes us happy, but some stamps just make us more happy than others!). If you missed the big reveal yesterday, you can find all 10 of our new stamps and 14 new dies here.
As I explained earlier this week, I love back to school! I’m not a teacher, I don’t go to school anymore, and I don’t have kids in school, and yet I find myself wanting to create teacher gifts! Madelyn’s kindergarten teacher is going to be spoiled with all the teacher gifts I’ve been creating and stockpiling over the years! *wink*
The images in the Classroom Cuties set make me smile. I can’t come up with a more perfect word than ‘cute’ to describe them. And so I decided to pair these images with the new Build a Scene dies to create a school scene on a Bare Elements gift card holder. Here’s how the outside cover turned out:
I started by sponging the background using the Cloud Border die and Summer Sky ink. Then I die cut the scenery including the rolling hills, sunshine, and swirly clouds (from Marshmallow felt). I stamped the schoolhouse and school bus with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Copics. They were die cut with the coordinating Back to School dies.
I adhered cork patterned paper from the Simple Stories 24/7 6×6 pad to the front and back covers of the book using 1/2″ sticky tape. Then I adhered the image panel to the base and added the pushpins in each corner from the From the Desk Of set of dies.
Then I set out to decorate the inside of the booklet where the gift card can be inserted. Here’s how that turned out:
I used patterned papers from both the Simple Stories 24/7 collection and the Doodlebug Take Note collection. The images were colored with Copic and I used silver paint pen on the top of the clipboard image. I love how this turned out and I’m excited to add it to my stash of teacher gifts!
