Taylored Expressions October Studio Challenge
Hey there! It’s time for the October Studio Challenge with the Baker’s Dozen! This is a monthly opportunity for our team to share a little bit about our creative process. Each month we have a fun, crafty question or theme so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, and more.
The theme for October is Never FELT Better!
Felt
is all the rage in crafting. It’s so thick and soft and gives that
special warm and cozy feeling to fall and winter projects. Taylored Expressions has 21
yummy colors to choose from, but do you ever just stare at all that felt
and think, “Hmmmm…what should I do with it?”
Well, here we are today to answer that question with lots of inspiring projects using felt! I’ve been preparing for the arrival of our baby girl and I wanted to get a head start on my thank you notes. There’s nothing softer or sweeter than a new baby and so I thought felt would be the perfect option for softening up these baby thank you cards. Here’s what I came up with:
One of the challenges when using felt is deciding what type of adhesive to use so I thought I’d share my tips. To adhere the tiny heart to the onesie I used Best Glue Ever. A liquid glue works great for small pieces that don’t need very much glue. If you use too much glue it will seep through and while it dries clear it can cause messy fingers and messy projects. Because the onesie itself is larger, I chose to use Thin Foam Squares to adhere it to the card base. These thin foam squares hold really well and they’re great for projects where you don’t want a lot of extra ‘lift’ to your layers. Another option for adhering felt if you don’t want any ‘lift’ is our Sticky Tape. It comes in 1/8″, 1/4″ and 1/2″ widths so there are lots of options depending on the size of your felt.
You can find all 21 colors of TE felt HERE (I used Cotton Candy & Robin’s Egg). Make sure you check out what the rest of the Baker’s Dozen created with felt. I hope you have an a-ha! moment and feel inspired to get crafty with your felt!
