Introducing Patriotic Prose, Light up the Night, A Mischief Maker, & Much More!
Hey there, crafty friends! It’s hard to believe it’s already May, but I
must say that I’m welcoming the warmer weather with renewed energy and
I’m excited for the summer months around the corner! With today’s sneak
peeks I can almost smell the char on the grill and taste those grill
marks on my steak. This week we’re introducing stamps and dies for the grill
master in our lives (“Oh Daaaad… will you grill me a steak!?”) and
Patriotic products that do double duty for many occasions! Over the next
three days the Baker’s Dozen and I will be showcasing 14 new stamp sets
and 13 Taylored Dies and Cutting Plates. We hope to inspire you as you
think about getting crafty for the upcoming summer occasions!
You’ll be able to find all of our new products at the TE web store
starting on Thursday, May 8th at 7am PST! In the meantime, we’ll be
showing off the new products and offering prizes right here on the TE
Blog!
Today we’re giving away City Skyline & Light Up the Night!
Enter to win by leaving a comment on this blog post before Wednesday, May 7 at 11:59pm PST. One entry per person. Each comment will also be automatically entered into our Grand Prize drawing for a $50 Gift Certificate to the TE Store! Winners will be chosen at random and announced on Thursday, May 8, 2014.
You may look at all of these goodies and think that everything looks very Patriotic, and no doubt you’ll see some fabulous Patriotic projects along the blog hop today. However, several of these stamps and dies will serve multiple purposes in your stamp collection (gotta love versatility!). So for my first project I used Light Up the Night and City Skyline to make this chic birthday card:
The Light Up the Night stamp set was specifically designed to work with the City Skyline die to create a beautiful sky behind the cityscape. This set can be used for many different occasions like New Year’s, 4th of July, birthday, or even an invitation to a night out on the town! I started by trimming the City Skyline from black cardstock. I cut a rectangle of the same size from white cardstock and airbrushed the background with various shades of purple and blue Copic.
The fireworks are embossed with sparkly white embossing powder as well as the sentiment from the Far Out stamp set. The Doodlebug Hip Hip Hooray 6×6 paper pad was an unlikely selection for this style, but these two patterns seemed to work perfectly. I’m already looking forward to trying out this die for more occasions!
For my next project I went entirely Patriotic because I’ve been so excited to try out the new American Flag Cutting Plate. This would make a quick and cute party invitation, but I’ve used it here to create a set of military thank you cards using a sentiment from the previously released Stars & Stripes stamp set:
There are several different looks you can achieve depending on how you assemble the elements from the cutting plate. I thought I’d share more details on how to achieve the three different looks pictured above.
This is the design featured in the back left of the first photo and it was the most time consuming design. However, I really like the smooth effect you achieve by paper piecing the red stripes within white cutout.

I think this design may be my favorite. It does require one extra step to adhere a white rectangle behind the blue star portion. However, I really like the pop of color that the red card base provides.
Taylor’s Tips
1. Save the star punches each time you cut out the plate. They make great confetti (as seen in the top photo)!
2. Try putting a white glittered piece of cardstock behind the blue star portion for stars that sparkle.
Today we’re also introducing our first Mischief Maker, a design and concept from illustrator Danielle Lounds. We’ve called this little gal the Mischief Maker because she has a mischievous look about her! I can’t wait to show you more Mischief Makers in the future, but for now I’ll leave you with this sneak peek. I’ll be sharing my full project on the TE Blog tomorrow and several of the girls have peeks of Mischief Americana today!
In the meantime, don’t forget to leave a comment to win and check out the rest of the fabulous inspiration the Baker’s Dozen gals have to share!
