Blog Design Team: Brighter Skies!
Happy Tuesday! We have a really fun pick-me-up project created by Blog Design Team member, Caryn Davies to share with you today. She shows us how to use a die and its negative space to make simple, inlaid card that will have you reaching for your favorite die!
Plus, to help you give a go with negatives, we’re giving away the stamp & die set Caryn used to create her project! Keep reading for details…
Caryn’s Note: It’s Caryn here with a couple of cards that are certain to brighten
even the gloomiest of days!! One of my absolute favourite Taylored
Expressions sets is the Sunny Days stamp set and co-ordinating dies. I
love the little expressions you can put on the face of the sun and the
fabulous rainbow die.
Caryn’s Notes: It was the rainbow that I wanted to work with for my projects today. I
selected 6 different bright and cheery cardstock colors and die cut the
rainbow from each one. After a bit of rearranging you end up with 6
lovely rainbows to create with.
Caryn’s Notes: I found the easiest way to assemble them was to use the negative die cut
as a template and place a piece of tape (sticky side up) across the
aperture. Then carefully put each band of the rainbow back in place
with the aperture acting as a guide. I found it easier to start with
the smallest band and work up but it’s whatever you find easiest! Both
my cards are quite clean and simple so the color pops right off the
card.
Caryn’s Notes: The first card uses the inlaid die-cut technique. I cut a 4″ x 5.25″
white card panel and die cut the rainbow from the center. I then placed
one of my assembled rainbows into the space and placed the cloud die
over one side, ran it through my die-cutting machine and then repeated it for the
other side. I cut two clouds from white cardstock and then assembled
everything together on the panel. I stamped the greeting under the
images and adhered the whole panel to my card base using foam tape.
Caryn’s Notes: The second card uses three more of the rainbows and I simply placed them
on a card panel and then added the clouds using foam tape finishing off
with the greeting at the bottom.
Thank you, Caryn’s for brightening our day! Caryn will be back again soon, so be sure to tune in to the TE Blog often!
