Blog Team: Groovy Birthday
Hi crafty friends and Happy Tuesday! Today the talented Caryn Davies is here to inspire you with a unique project using our Feelin’ Groovy stamp set. Any project using this cool technique will certainly ‘stand out’ from the crowd!
Caryn’s Notes: Caryn here with a fun and funky birthday card I created using the awesome Feeling Groovy stamp set and Tall and Skinny Alpha dies. I got good and inky with this card and I can’t wait to show you how to create something similar yourself!
Caryn’s Notes: I started by creating the background on a piece of watercolor paper cut to a panel measuring 4″ x 5.25″. I sponged the background
with Distress Ink in Spun Sugar and Shaded Lilac. I was trying for a
sort of retro, tie-dyed kind of appearance so when I had finished inking
I splattered a few drops of water onto the panel which gives it that
kind of vibe!
Caryn’s Notes: For a little bit of dimension and interest I then took the flowery
“Peace” symbol from the stamp set and one of the flower designs and
stamped randomly in Versamark ink which I then heat embossed in clear
embossing powder.
Caryn’s Notes: Now that the base panel was finished I took the letter dies and spelled
out PEACE. Obviously there are two “e”s in peace so I placed them where
I needed them to be and held them in place with post-it tape while I
ran them through my Big Shot. I went back through with the other “e” after that and put the letters to one side.
Caryn’s Notes: I then cut the same letters out of white card stock 4 more times (5 in
total) and layered them up, adhering them together securely with tiny
spots of Glossy Accents, with the top one being the one from the letters
cut from the inked panel.
Caryn’s Notes: I glued a piece of card to the back of the panel to cover the negative
spaces left by the letters and to allow the layered up letters to be
anchored in place. This was then adhered to a 4.25″ x 5’5″ card base
with 1mm foam adhesive. The layered letters were then put back in place
(think of it like a jigsaw) and the “hope you have a groovy birthday”
was stamped and then cut using the smallest of the dies from Banner Stacklets 1.
