when I turned 16 (many, many years ago) my parents took my friends and I out for a birthday supper. We went to a fancy restaurant, all dressed up, I had a sweet-16 corsage (do kids do that any more?). had an excellent dinner, got some wonderful presents, and had a great time feeling so grown up. It was a great evening that I'll always remember and treasure now that mother and daddy are both gone.

My best birthday memory is from my 21st. I had come down to the big city to study an university and my 21st fell in the middle of a week filled with classes, so I just had a few uni friends come around for a small celebration. Little did I know that my parents arranged for someone to milk the cows (yes, I grew up on a dairy farm), they travelled 4hours to come visit, bringing a cake baked by my Grandma. I don't even remember my gifts because it was so wonderful to have them with me on my special day 🙂

It all culminated with a cake and ice cream with our friends!! <3 <3 <3

  • aileen (mum)

The first thought to jump to mind was not my birthday but my mums. My mum is an identical twin, so for their 80th birthday we went for a traditional English High Tea with all the family and mums three sisters and partners and dads brothers and sisters and partners. It was just so elegant and fun and I loved just sitting and watching all my extended family together. One of rare times that brought everyone together, so much love and laughter. From 90 years to newborn 4 weeks who could ask for more.

  • barbara macaskill

My favorite Birthday memory is the only year that my hubby of 24 years did anything for my Birthday. He arranged for me to go on a weekend bus trip to a casino/bingo hall. He arranged EVERYTHING! Babysitter, my trip, a day off from work for me, spending money and even packed for me.
About an hour before the bus left he told me to get in the car RIGHT NOW! I had no clue what we were doing but hopped in and about 5 minutes before we got to the bus he gave me an envelope and told me to open it. I did and saw the date and started freaking out. he told me to calm down because the bus was just pulling in and that he had my bag in the trunk.
I couldn't believe he pulled it off so well. It took me most of the 5 hour bus trip to realize that it was really happening!
He hasn't given me a gift since but I am not too worried about it. Best Birthday EVER!

  • barb hendrickson

My favorite birthday memory was my 50th birthday party. We had a house full of friends and family (they even traveled from long distances) and a family photo shoot. It was such a blessing to me, but the biggest surprise was when my husband presented to me a beautiful 12×12 scrapbook packed with lovely, kind, and memorable note and cards from all kinds of friends and family from throughout my life. It was memorable indeed! Thanks for the giveaway and for the walk down memory lane. 😉

My best birthday memory was when my 5 young children baked me a cake all by themselves. Dad decided to put those tall skinny candles on it,and lit them up underneath the paper towel dispenser. Fortunately, no disaster occurred, but we still laugh about it to this day. That was 30 years ago 🙂
