Blog Design Team: Joyful Colors of the Season
Happy, joyful Thursday, crafty friends! Today, Blog Team designer, Kay Miller joins us with some snappy tips on adding depth to stamped images and shares how she created this stunning Christmas card!
As it is the season of giving, we want to celebrate by giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to the TE Store! Read on for details…
Kay’s Notes: Hi there! Today I’m going to show you how you can quickly add depth and
dimension to your stamped floral images with Copic (or alcohol-based) markers.
Kay’s Notes: First
stamp your images and cut them out if you’d like. For my card, I used TE’s Peaceful Poinsettias and coordinating Poinsettias die set. Next, you’ll want to
find a Copic marker color that is just a shade or two darker than the
ink you used to stamp with. (Hint: You might want to stamp a practice image to
use for testing which marker looks the best.)
Kay’s Notes: Then you
just shade a small amount near the inner or center parts of the leaves (or blooms). I
used a quick flick of the brush marker on mine. This doesn’t
have to be super neat as you can see by my examples and will in fact give it a more natural appearance. Just be careful to not go all the
way to the outside edge. If it doesn’t look dark enough when it dries,
you can go back over it just a bit with the same marker and it will
darken it some more.
Kay’s Notes: After I finished coloring and
shading my die cut pieces I put them together to make a lovely Christmas
card. I used Label Stacklets 3 and cut the next-to-the-largest one
out of a white panel, then cut a smaller one out of Sugar Cube card
stock and popped them both up with foam tape on a green panel. I
layered my poinsettia and leaves with foam tape and adhered it to the
top of the smaller inside white stacklet. I next cut the Joy circle from the Treat
Topper dies and glued it to the inside white stacklet shape, too.
Kay’s Notes: For a final touch, I cut a swirl from
the Curly Swirlies dies, cut it in half and glued each piece just under
the poinsettia leaves.
