Hey there, crafty friends! I hope you had a great weekend! I had an excellent time teaching classes at Crafter’s Haven in Minneapolis. It’s always so much fun to meet up with friends and fans and share the joy of stamping together.
A few weeks ago I found myself in my stamp studio with time to try out a new product and today I want to share with you! I recently discovered stencil mask sheets and was intrigued to see whether they would work with TE dies to die cut my own stencils. Guess what? It works!
I started by die cutting the stencil mask using the Bold Lace Cutting Plate. I popped out the cutout pieces and then peeled the stencil mask away from the backing. Then I laid the mask over a piece of Sugar Cube cardstock, chose three coordinating Copic markers, and hooked up my airbrush.
I airbrushed starting with the lightest color at the bottom and graduating to the darkest marker at the top of the design.
Note: The stencil mask is reusable! However, I discovered that when you’ve cut an intricate design as pictured, the mask tends to rip when you remove it from the cardstock. If you’re planning to cut intricate masks plan on a one time use. For more solid shapes (letters, balloons, butterflies, etc.), plan to save and reuse over and over.
After removing the stencil mask, here’s the card I designed with the airbrushed background:
I popped the background up onto a Sugar Cube card base. I trimmed leaves and flowers from felt to build the bouquet. The sentiment from Shade Tree Sentiments is embossed in gold and I stitched gold sequins into the felt flower centers.
