Blog Design Team: Time for Tea

Happy last day of June, crafty friends! Today, Blog Team Designer Julia Stainton has created another lovely card today that celebrates the simple joys of a cup of tea.

Plus! We will be giving away the stamp set and paper pad Julia used in today’s project to one lucky winner, so keep reading for details…

And now, let’s hear from Julia about her project…

As time goes by it seems that I grow more and more like my mother. We
are no longer blessed to have her with us, but the memories are sweet and
I always picture her with a cup of tea. It was her favorite thing to
drink and tea time would be every few hours of the day. I’m finding
myself more and more drawn to the comforts of tea and the sweet In Other
Words: Tea stamp set kept catching my eye in the Taylored Expressions
store. I couldn’t resist.

This set is perfect for watercoloring
and as watercoloring is so popular right now, I thought I’d have a little
creative fun with this technique. Recently I purchased some watercolor
markers, but you can also paint this image with liquid or pan watercolors
as well.

I used a whimsical color scheme of mixed and matched
dishes on this image. It’s stamped onto watercolor paper, then
watercolored and then stitched to the card front. I love stitching any
card, but in particular watercolor ones, as it really holds the heavy
paper on well.

The Rainbow Brights paper pad makes a fun
background for the card. The bright colors coordinate perfectly with my
watercoloring. This set is full of sweet sentiments and I adore the
fonts used. I used the “If life gives you lemons, put them in your
tea” quote and stamped it along the bottom of the design.

    Last month a few ladies from church were helping with colating a mailing. One of the ladies is from Great Britian and loves her tea with milk. The rest of us had our tea iced but Mary wouldn't think of having ice tea! I have my mom's tea pot she used when we were growing up. I use it for special occasions and remeber her using it. This stamp set reminds me of my mom's tea pot. Love the water coloring!

    This weekend I was in Laughlon celebrating my son's 30th birthday. My younger son and I were about to go over for the party and stopped at Starbuck's and I had my Chai and my younger son had his coffee with extra expresso and we sat and had a nice conversation. Not to say we did not enjoy the air since it was 117 outside. Gotta love my chai.

    Oh, I love Julia's tea time card! I have long loved tea sets, and my mom does too. We love the little ceramic tea service sets!! Toys…but they are so sweet and fun. My Aunt Kayla loved tea, we lost her unexpectedly this year at 68. I will miss making her tea related gifts. My husband and I love coffee anytime, it's a must to start our day Every Day!     My sister has collected teapots for many years. They aren't just for looking at. Every February in the tiny town in which she lives there is usually still snow on the ground. As the women are all in need of perking up, my sister has a Victorian tea when she gets out all her teapots and cups with saucers, decorates beautifully and has finger cookies and home breads. From the time everyone enters her home they have smiles on their faces as they relax, are served their choice of flavor of tea, and chat with friends.     I usually drink tea alone in the am when I am surfing the sites I follow. drinking tea brings back memories of the first time I had it. I was probably 12 or so and at a friends. her brother offered to make it for us. then he asked what we wanted in it. I said sugar and lemon and he said cream and I said yes please. when he brought it to me it was all funky curdled. he remade it and the second time it came back the same way. by then his mom came out and asked what the problem was. we showed her and she laughed and said you silly's you can have lemon and milk together or it will curdle. lesson learned.

I always drink it in the mornings and in the evenings but usually don't share it with anyone as my daughter doesn't drink coffee.     I love the little umbrella & rain drops. I also have my eye on the darling little rain boots from the recent release, too! Other than my husband, my friend, Renee, moved next door to us when I was about 4, moved away 5 or so years later to Illinois & then Wisconsin. That was around 1969. Such a sad day as we said goodbye in the library at school. She now lives in Alaska. We have kept in touch all these years through snail mail, trips, phone calls, email & now facebook.

    I met my most amazing best friend the day I started Nursing 31yrs ago and we have not seen each other for eight years as I moved to Australia with my family.     My best friend, Kathy, was there for me when my husband had cancer. She was the first person at my door when he passed away. I was able to repay her kindness less than a year later when she received her cancer diagnosis. I am happy to say she has been cancer free for three years! I thank God every day for her!!
