Blog Design Team: Stitched with LOVE
Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Blog Design Team member Amy Kolling loves to make mini cards and today she has created some darling shaped and “cross-stitched” mini cards that’ll have you scratching your head that there isn’t any thread! Check them out…
Now, let’s hear from Amy about her project…
There’s something about embroidery that just floods my mind with
memories of my grandmother. I remember visiting and watching her for
countless hours as she stitched tea towels. It was from her I picked
up the hobby of cross stitch in high school. I love the look of a
completed project and enjoy the process too!
I have a trio
of mini Valentine cards using the Embroidery Hoop Die and the stamp set
Stitch by Stitch. If you follow me at all, you know I LOVE to make
mini cards and especially for my kids. This die is a perfect size to
make some minis that I can tuck in a lunch box and maybe, just maybe,
she will find the same nostalgia in them that I found with my grandmother.
I started with 3
white bases where I folded a piece of cardstock in half and ran this
through my Big Shot, making sure to leave the top cutting edge off the
fold of the paper. When done, it left me with 3 folding circle cards
to use as the bases for my Embroidery Hoops. TIP: To make the circle
cards stand up, I trimmed just a small straight edge off the back of the
card.
To color the two images that are multi-colored, I
colored the parts of the image with markers directly on the stamp and then “huffed” on the
image before stamping to rekindle the ink. The result is a multi-colored image! I used all
Distress Markers for this technique. The remainder of the Embroidery
Hoop was die-cut and assembling was a breeze after my images were ready.
To finish the cards off, the sentiments were stamped on the inside!
Thanks so much, Amy, for sharing these wonderful mini cards with us today! You can catch more of Amy’s design work on her blog, Stamp-n-Paradise. Have a joyful day!
