Blog Design Team: Let’s BLOOM + a Giveaway!
Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Today is shaping up to be a beautiful day because Blog Design Team members Lisa Henke and Amy Kolling have taken our fan-favorite new die, Full Bloom and given us two gorgeous cards. Plus, we’ve got a fabulous prize for a lucky reader! Read on for details…
First up, let’s hear from Lisa on how she created her card…
From the moment I saw the Full Bloom die, I knew I had to have it. It is one of those WOW products that will surely make anyone smile! I framed it up with the Pockets & Pages 3×4 Frame die. I first cut it from watercolor paper to get my center frame piece. I then cut it again with some Sugar Cube Premium Cardstock. I used the watercolor paper center to then cut the Full Bloom die. I set those aside and got inky with some distress inks.
Using more watercolor paper, I did some ink blending with Pickled Raspberry ad Mustard Seed (from Mini Set 1) and Abandoned Coral (from mini set 13). I started with the yellow, blended into the coral, and then blended that into the raspberry. Once I had my inks laid down, I spritzed it with some clean water to activate the distress inks. I always love the way this turns out. I let that dry and then used the petal pieces from the Full Bloom die to cut out all the pretty colors. Once I had all my petals cut, I got busy adhering them down. I was pleasantly surprised that this really didn’t take me all that long to do. Plus, the results are WOW! So it was worth it.
I stamped the sentiment from the C’mon Get Happy stamp set along the bottom of the 3×4 Frame. I accented that with some Rainbow Brights Sequins. I also punched a tiny hole and tied on some black burlap twine.
For the background of my card, I wanted more texture. I started with another piece of watercolor paper and smooshed on the Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral inks. Once the panel was dry, I ran it through my die-cut machine with the Lots of Dots Embossing Folder. I added that to a top folding A2 Sugar Cube card base and then popped up my main image floral panel with some foam dimensionals. At the last minute, I felt the card was missing something. I cut one more Pockets & Pages 3×4 Frame from Lollipop cardstock and layered it behind the white Full Bloom panel, just a little off-set. This gave it an extra pop of color, so the main panel would really stand out. Smiles will be blooming with this card for sure!

Hello! One of the things I love about living in Kansas is our state flower: the Sunflower. I love driving past fields and fields of beautiful sunflowers. When Taylored Expressions released the Full Bloom die last month, I knew I wanted to make it “my sunflower”.
I started with a piece of watercolor cardstock. I positioned the Full Bloom die where I wanted it on my panel and ran it through my Big Shot. For my color, I’ve used a combination of Mustard Seed and Fossilized Amber Distress Inks. I watercolored the petals with Mustard Seed by gently pushing the petals up from behind so I could just color the petals using a #4 Ranger brush. After letting the petals dry, I went back with the Fossilized Amber and added accents to give the petals some detail.
For the sentiment, I’ve die cut several “hello”s from the Hi, Hey, Hello die set in brown cardstock and glued them together for just a bit of dimension. I added drops of Tombo Multi Mono behind the Hello sentiment to adhere it to the center of my bloom. To finish this off, I added a few gems to the petals and “lifted” the petals for dimension.
Before I adhered my watercolor panel to a top folding notecard, I backed my sunflower with some blue cardstock to represent the sky. I love how this looks from an angle! To frame my sunflower, I’ve used my favorite Taylored Expressions die set, the Frame in Frame Cutting Plate. I’ve used the largest frame in the set because it has such great embossed line details!
