Rock & Roll Birthday Balloons
Good morning, crafty friends! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! It’s Taylor here today and I’m excited to be stopping in with a quick birthday card using two of my favorite products from our September Release; Bold Balloons & the Word Search Birthday background stamp!
I just love the new Word Search – Birthday background stamp and there are so many fun possibilities with several birthday words and birthday greetings hidden within the word search. I started by stamping the background and then highlighting the words I wanted to feature. I ended up cutting them out and popping them up later, but by highlighting them at the beginning I could plan the rest of my design around the greeting.
I wanted to keep the fun look of the word search in the background so I decided to stamp the bold balloons directly over the word search (instead of die cutting the balloons and adhering them over the top). In order to add interest I decided to revisit the age old technique of Rock & Roll stamping. This was one of the first techniques I learned as a new stamper!
Here’s a look at the Rock and Roll technique in action:
It gets it’s name from how you rock and roll your image on the ink pad in order to get the two-toned results shown. Here are a few tips I learned when I revisited this technique:
- I found it easier to place the image facing up and use a mini ink pad to add the ink around the edges. The mini ink pad size makes it easy to control where you put the ink and by having the stamp image facing up, you can see exactly where you’ve put the ink (or any spots you might have missed).
- I still love the blended look that Copic markers provide so after stamping my two-toned images I went back with a coordinating Copic and blended the colors together a little bit more (see chart listed above for some ink and Copic color combination options).
After stamping the balloons, I drew the strings by hand with silver paint pen. Then with a piercing tool, I pierced each side of the nub at the bottom of the balloon image and threaded silver cording through to finish each balloon with a bow. As I mentioned earlier, I stamped the word search background again, colored, cut and popped up the feature words with foam tape.
Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a great week ahead!
