Field Notes: A Sketchbook Inspired Kit
Hey, crafty friends! It’s Taylor here today! I know how much you’ve been loving our cardmaking kits and I’m excited to share the next one with you! The Field Notes kit is available now and features the very first illustrations from my long-time friend and talented designer, Lori Craig! In addition to card making, Lori loves to draw and paint flowers in her sketchbook so this kit is fashioned with a sketchbook feel.
In addition to her beautiful sketched florals, the kit includes a roughly sketched grid background, a dotted element similar to what you’d find in a bullet journal, and two unique date stamps for marking your works of art. It also includes a set of Frayed Edge Rectangle Masking Stencils that will coordinate in size with the previously released plain Rectangle Masking Stencils!
So what’s unique about our kits? First, there’s no subscription necessary. Also, in keeping with our mission to Share Joy, we encourage you to send the cards you create by including six envelopes in a variety of colors along with six custom envelope seals to match the theme of the kit. Each kit comes packaged in a zippered pouch with a coordinating vinyl sticker making it easy to keep the supplies together.
Here’s everything included the Field Notes Kit – which retails for $85:
- Sketchbook Florals stamp set
- Sketchbook Florals die collection
- Field Notes stamp set
- Rough Draft Background stamp
- Masking Stencils – Frayed Edge Rectangles
- 6 Custom Envelope Seals
- 6 Colored Envelopes
- Packaged in a zippered pouch with a custom kit label
We also have a few other new items debuting today that are available to purchase separately: extra envelope seals, new Bits & Pieces – Clear Drip Drop embellishments, and our new watercolor cardstock that perfect for using with BrushMarker Pro markers.

I am sharing a project from Heather Nichols today. She embossed and watercolored one of the floral elements from the set using Karin Brushmarkers. Watch the video below to see how she created her project:
In the video, Heather shares how she embossed the floral images onto watercolor paper and then adding color using a wet on wet technique with Karin Brushmarkers. These are a relatively new product in the TE webstore and we are excited to share more about these great new coloring tools!
If you haven’t checked these markers out yet, they are filled with a dye-based paint and are wonderful to use for hand lettering and coloring techniques. You will love the vibrant colors!
After coloring the image, Heather added some distressing and texture using the Rough Draft Background stamp and splattering onto her colored image with color from the Plum Brushmarker and Opaque White Copic Ink. She die cut the floral piece with a Stitched Circle Stacklets die and added it to a Toffee cardstock background stamped with the Rough Draft Background in Sugar Cube ink.
I am so excited about the new Bits & Pieces – Clear Drip Drops embellishments! They are similar to our original Bits & Pieces – Drip Drops, but are completely clear instead of having the backing and iridescent shine. Heather used them on this card, scattering them across her floral design. They look like dew drops on the flowers!
Now, let’s take a closer look at the different elements of the kit as well as more inspiration from our Creative Team. Note: All of these items are only available as part of the Field Notes Kit.
The Sketchbook Florals stamp set features three floral images with a beautiful sketchbook look. You will love adding color to the flowers with your favorite coloring medium: watercolor paints, colored pencils, markers, and more. Cut out the floral images with the coordinating dies and stamp the small sentiments from the stamp set onto the tiny tag die.
You can color a single stem, gather up several for a bouquet, or stamp a whole garden using these floral images – the possibilities are endless! Wanda Guess has incredible coloring skills and they definitely shine on these beautiful projects. She opted for a single stem on her ‘hello’ card and gathered a whole bundle together on her ‘thinking of you’ card.
Jen Shults did a no-line coloring technique on her stunning project with one of the blooms from the Sketchbook Florals stamp set. She stamped the bloom in a light ink color – Sea Salt ink works great for this – and then added her coloring over the stamped image.
Lori Craig (our Sketchbook Florals illustrator!) also did a no-line coloring technique on this project. Isn’t it dreamy? She stamped one of the small sentiments from the Sketchbook Florals stamp set onto the mini tag die that is included in the Sketchbook Florals die collection.
Add details and sentiments to your projects using the Field Notes stamp set. The set includes five sentiments featuring a handwritten script. Use the dot grid, calendar, date block, and sketched squares to add unique details to your projects or use them in a journal or scrapbook to document an occasion or discovery.
The Rough Draft Background stamp features a distressed grid design that you can use for the background on your projects, as a place to add journaling to a scrapbook, or to add unique textures to your stamped creations.
Lori Craig added the perfect detail to her project by stamping the dot grid from the Field Notes stamp set on her background behind her watercolored bloom. The sentiments from the Field Notes set are lovely and heartfelt like this ‘thinking of you’ that Lori added as her sentiment on this card.
Melody Rupple used several of the elements from the Field Notes stamp set to build a background in a color-blocked collage-style on her project. I love how Melody used the calendar element along with the date block to signify a date that is personal to the card recipient. Melody stamped the Rough Draft Background with Lavender Glaze ink onto the same color of cardstock to create a tone on tone look to frame the image on her card.
Noriko Fairchild used one of the sentiments from the Field Notes stamp set along with a few of the blooms from the Sketchbook Florals stamp set and framed the images using the masking stencils included in the kit (which you will hear more about shortly) paired with the Rough Draft Background. The effect is so soft and pretty and something I definitely want to try out on a future project!
The new Masking Stencils – Frayed Edge Rectangles features two sizes of rectangles with a rough edge design. Use the etched guides to easily center the rectangles on both an A2 and A2 layer. The solid shapes from the stencil openings are also included for even more masking possibilities!
Gayatri Murali layered two stencils from the Masking Stencils – Frayed Edge Rectangles together on this card. It was perfect to frame the single bloom ad then she finished of her card with twine and the mini tag from the Sketchbook Florals die collection stamped with the ‘hello’ sentiment.
Jill Hawkins created a unique background on her ‘thanks’ card using the Masking Stencils – Frayed Edge Rectangles. She moved the stencils across the cardstock, adding ink colors from light to dark with her Blender Brushes. I really love how Jill used a floral on this card that is just stamped with no coloring. The florals in the Sketchbook Florals stamp set are great for coloring, but stand well on their own too!
Melody Rupple added a background scene to her project using the Masking Stencils – Frayed Edge Rectangles. She added green to the bottom part of the design and then added in a cloudy sky using the Set the Scene – Clouds Stencil Strips. Melody die cut her stenciled design using the Frayed Edge Stacklets which perfectly match the masking stencil designs!
And finally, the Field Notes Kit includes 6 envelopes and 6 custom envelope seals that coordinate with the theme of the kit. The six A2 envelopes match the following cardstock colors: Lavender Glaze, Sprinkles, Salt Water Taffy, Sweet Basil, Toffee, and Blue Corn (not pictured). The cute envelope seals are made from durable, weatherproof material and are sure to bring a smile to the recipients of your cards. Don’t forget that you can purchase additional envelope seals in the TE webstore right now!
Today I’ll be unboxing the new Field Notes Kit during “T Time” at 1PM Central Time on the Taylored Expressions Facebook Page and would love to have you join me! If you miss the live broadcast, it will be available to view afterward. I hope to see you there!
