The video today is from Joy Baldwin featuring the new Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die. She created five Mini Slim cards perfect for Valentine’s Day to share with you that have backgrounds created with the cutting plate. Watch the video below to see how she created them:
In the video, Joy shares how she created backgrounds using the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die using one color for the frame and inset pieces that are embossed with the Swiss Hearts embossing folder. The cards feature the cute critters from the You Have My Heart stamp set (+ coordinating dies) that are colored with Copic markers. Joy customized the sentiments on the cards using the Mini Caps Alpha & #s die collection to highlight specific words. Joy also created a few bonus cards using leftover pieces from cutting out the backgrounds for the first set of cards!
Here’s a closer look at the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die that Joy shared in the video:
The Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate creates a diagonal striped frame that is designed to coordinate with a Mini Slim sized card base. The frame cut outs have a stitched border detail and provide fun possibilities for inset designs on your projects.
Do you know how certain projects make you need to take another look at a stamp set or die collection? This set of cards absolutely tuned me into the You Have My Heart stamp set! How cute are those critters? The other question I had was, how did Joy line up the embossed hearts so perfectly on the inset pieces? If you haven’t watched the video, you will want to so you can find out the tip that Joy shares for how to do it!
This pair of cards are bonus creations using the left over insert pieces from the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die on the first set of cards. Joy cut another frame piece from Sugar Cube cardstock and added the inset pieces to create a fun and colorful striped background look. She used just the heads of a few of the critters, a sentiment, and a sprinkling of Bits & Pieces – Hearts embellishments to complete these bonus card designs.
Check out the supply list below for the supplies that Joy used on her projects:
Here are more projects created by the TE Creative Team and a closer look at a few of the new Mini Slim Essentials release products:
Gayatri Murali created a striking look by creating a rainbow blend on Sugar Cube cardstock, cutting it out with the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die and using just the frame with Oreo cardstock inset pieces. The contrast is amazing and if you visit her blog you can see the other card that Gayatri created with the reverse combination. The sentiments from the Just Saying stamp set are stamped on strips of cardstock that have are blended with coordinating ink colors and the card is finished off with Bits & Pieces – White Rhinestones.
Kevin Bray cleverly combined two of the new cutting plates to create this Mini Slim card. He cut a rainbow of cardstock colors to create the striped design with the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die and then cut that panel with the Mini Slim Circle Window Cutting Plate die. The letters from the Cap if Off Alpha die collection spell out the word ‘hey’ set in the window openings and Kevin paired that with the ‘whatcha been up to?’ sentiment from the Just Saying stamp set.
Emily Mydlowski also took advantage of making more than one card with the elements from die cutting with the Mini Slim Diagonal Stripes Cutting Plate die. The card on the left features a Sugar Cube frame and Oreo cardstock inset pieces for the background. Emily reversed the colors for the card on the right, but instead of leaving the Sugar Cube cardstock as is, she blended colors inspired by the colored flower on the other card onto the inset pieces. The final result is two Mini Slim cards perfect for sending joy to a few friends and/or loved ones.
The Little Critters stamp set includes nine of the cutest critters that are sized to coordinate with the window openings in the Mini Slim window dies. They are perfect for peeking through a window opening on your project and more! Color the critters using your favorite coloring medium like Copic markers, colored pencils, etc.
The sentiments in the Just Saying stamp set coordinate with the Little Critters stamp set, but they will also work with lots other stamps in your collection! The 12 sentiments are sized to fit on a Mini Slim card and cover a number of occasions.
Three cute critters from the Little Critters stamp set are peeking through the windows on this sweet Mini Slim card created by Kevin Bray. The bunny, bear, and sloth critters are colored with Copic markers and I love the touch of color that Kevin added behind each of them with his Blender Brushes. The ‘peeking in to say ‘hello” sentiment from the set is just perfect for this card design and is embossed in white on a pink cardstock strip that is set right below the window openings.
Jill Hawkins added a few of the sentiments from the Just Saying stamp set to this heartfelt Mini Slim card. She placed hearts created with the Hearts A Plenty Cling & Clear Combo set (+ coordinating die) into the windows and stamped the sentiments in between them. Jill coordinated her background with the pink and blue hearts by doing a matching color blend with the Mini Slim Swiss Hearts stencil and also added a coordinating color blend behind the window openings.
The Mini Slim Square Window Cutting Plate and Mini Slim Circle Window Cutting Plate cut out a panel with three openings and pierced border details and is sized to perfectly to layer onto a Mini Slim card base. Use the openings to frame images or sentiments or even create a shaker card!
Latisha Yoast created a puffy cloud sky for the magical critters from the Little Critters stamp set using the Set the Scene – Clouds Stencil Strips set. She cut out the the cloud design using the Mini Slim Circle Window Cutting Plate die and added the unicorn, dragon, and yeti so they are peeking through the windows. I love the hearts that are stenciled behind the cute critters! The ‘have a magical day!’ sentiment is paired with ‘hi’ that Latisha put together using the Cap if Off Alpha dies.
The llamas from the Little Critters stamp set are the cutest peeking through the windows on this Mini Slim card created by Emily Mydlowski! The Mini Slim Square Window Cutting Plate die is cut from Sugar Cube cardstock and layered onto a Lollipop Mini Slim card base and I love how the contrast between the white and bright pink really makes the llamas stand out! Emily paired the ‘peeking in to say ‘hello” sentiment from the Just Saying stamp set with the ‘hey girl hey’ sentiment from the Mini Strips – Fun & Funny stamp to customize the completed sentiment on this card.
