Today’s video features a trio of Mini Slim projects by Emily Leiphart that feature sentiments created with the Cap it Off Alpha die collection. Watch below to see how Emily created these cards from start to finish:
In the video, Emily shows you how she cut out the Cap it Off Alpha dies to use as sentiments on three different Mini Slim card designs. She shares how she used TE Sticky Sheets to layer up the letters and adhere them to her projects. She pairs the words created with the alphabet dies with sentiments from the Simple Strips – Snarky stamp that are cut out with the Simple Strips – Asymmetrical die. Each card has a different background that Emily created with stencils and her Blender Brushes and she added elements from the Cattitude stamp set to each one.
Here’s a closer look at the Cap it Off Alpha dies that Emily shared in the video:
Alphabet dies give you the ability to customize sentiments and personalize projects! The new Cap It Off Alpha die collection features a bold sans serif outline font that will work well with so many different looks. Use the outlines on their own or combine them with the inset pieces to create unique and fun effects.
This ‘fun’ Mini Slim card features the Bokeh Layered Stencil set in the background. Emily used Peapod, Cookie Monster, and Jelly Donut inks for the outlines on each letter and used the same colors of ink for the stenciled layers. To help the letters stand out on the busy background, she added the Sugar Cube cardstock letter inserts into the colored outlines. I love how Emily paired the word ‘fun’ with ‘Ain’t nobody got time for that.’ from the Simple Strips – Snarky stamp. Doesn’t that feel like the truth sometimes? To add even more emphasis, she stamped ‘doh!’ from the Cattitude stamp set above the sentiment!
On this ‘martini’ card, Emily used a cat from the Cattitude stamp set that is actually holding a martini as the ‘A’ in the word! The letters are cut out with silver glitter cardstock and added to a background that is stenciled with stars from the Masking Stencils – Stars set. Emily used one of the stencils in the set and just shifted it around a few times to add the different colors. The ‘martini’ word is paired with the ‘It’s called being an adult’ sentiment to complete this fun and snarky card!
This last card says exactly what feel about Mondays! Emily added the letter outlines cut from Oreo cardstock to a gray, cloudy background that is created with the Set the Scene – Cloud Stencil Strips set. She used a cat from the Cattitude stamp set as the ‘O’ in the word and it looks like Monday sure hit him good..! The ‘I’m pretty sure I seized the wrong day’ sentiment from the Simple Strips – Snarky stamp pretty much sums everything up.
Are you inspired to create a few custom snarky sentiments like Emily did? Check out the list below for all of the supplies that she used on her projects:
Here’s more inspiration from members of the TE Creative Team as well as a closer look at a few more of the new products that are available to purchase today for our Mini Slim Essentials release!
Jill Hawkins is keeping the snarky theme going on this Mini Slim card. She used the Cap it Off Alpha dies to spell out the word ‘nope’ using Watermelon cardstock for the outline, Pineapple cardstock for the inset, and set the word on a background that is stamped with the Dizzy Dots Background. She paired ‘nope’ with the ‘Ain’t nobody got time for that.’ sentiment from the Simple Strips – Snarky stamp. I have definitely said this phrase in my head AND out loud many times!
I (Heather Nichols) used the Cap it Off Alpha dies to create a pair of Mini Slim birthday cards. If you remember the rainbow blend with the Mini Slim Candy Cane Stripes stencil on the cards that I created for the video on yesterday’s post, I did that technique again to use with the letter die cuts. I was able to create two cards by reversing the outline/inset pieces for the ‘wish’ word and added them to a background that is stenciled with the Masking Stencils – Stars set using Sugar Cube ink on Toffee cardstock. The ‘happy birthday to you’ sentiment is from the new Just Saying stamp set and I added a few glittery stars scattered across the card front for extra sparkle.
Laurie Willison used the new Mini Slim Circle Window Cutting Plate die cut from Cookie Monster cardstock and set the letters from the Cap it Off Alpha dies to spell out the word ‘hey’ into the window openings. She created a rainbow stripe pattern using Copic markers on a piece of Sugar Cube cardstock and used that as the outline of the letters with Sugar Cube cardstock as the inset pieces. Just think of the different possibilities that you could do to build your sentiments in the windows on this cutting plate and the square window version too!
Our Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Circle and Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Hexagon sets make it easy to create circle or hexagon cut-out windows on your Mini Slim Trifold Cards (sold separately). Simply align the larger stencil template on the front flap of the card, center the larger stitched die, and run it through a die-cut machine. Do the same with the smaller stencil and die on the flap that will fold into the center, then run it through. Voilà! Perfectly aligned cut-out windows! You can also use the dies separately, and the stencil templates double as masking stencils.
Laurie Willison used the Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Circle set to create a wonderful clean and simple Valentine card. She used the largest circle template to blend a light pink circle in the inside of the trifold card to show through the window and added a striped heart created with the Hearts a Plenty Cling & Clear Combo set (+ coordinating die) stamped with the ‘be mine’ sentiment into the window opening.
Annette Allen colored up a few pretty blooms from the Sketchbook Florals stamp set to put together this pretty Toffee trifold card. She used the Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Circle set to create the window openings on the card and each layer of the card includes texture and fun surprises as you open it up. The Rough Draft Background is stamped with Sugar Cube ink on the first two layers and the sentiment on the inside of the card is from the new Just Saying stamp set.
Noriko Fairchild used the cute little bear critter from the new Little Critters stamp set to peek through the hexagon window on this Mini Slim trifold card. She used the Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Hexagon set to create the window on the trifold card, created a striped pattern using cardstock strips, and stamped several heartfelt sentiments throughout the card from the Just Saying stamp set. Opening each layer of this card feel just like a hug!
Emily Mydlowski is sending a fun Valentine greeting with this Mini Slim trifold card featuring Millie floating away with a bunch of balloons from the Love From Max & Millie stamp set. The layered hexagon windows are cut out with the Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Hexagon set and the front of the card is stenciled with the Mini Slim Swiss Hearts stencil in pretty pink and purple inks. I love how Emily actually added Millie to the card twice so you can see her throughout the card design and the balloons on the very inside of the card are perfectly peeking through the window opening when the card is closed!
