Today’s video comes from the kit designer herself, Heather Nichols! Heather walks you through creating two different card designs with The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit in the video below:
In the video, Heather shows what is included in The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit. She creates bumblebees using The Bee’s Knees Stamp & Stencil Combo set on Sugar Cube and Toffee cardstock using the background stamp and stencils. Heather keeps the bumblebee background intact that is created on the Toffee cardstock and cuts out individual bees from the bumblebees created on the Sugar Cube cardstock. She then creates two card designs with the kit, using the Honeycomb Cluster die and What’s the Buzz? stamp set to put the card designs together.
Here’s a closer look at the cards that Heather created in the video:
It’s so much fun to experiment with stamping and stenciling the bumblebees on different colors of cardstock like Heather did her with her signature Toffee cardstock! The bumblebee stripes and antennae are stamped with Oreo Ink and the rest of the details are added with the stencils: the bodies with Honey ink, the eyes with Oreo ink, and the wings with Sugar Cube ink. Sentiments from the What’s the Buzz? stamp set are cut out with a Stitched Banner Stacklets die and layered over a Honey cardstock Honeycomb Cluster die cut along with a few individual bumblebees.
The individual bumblebees are created on Sugar Cube cardstock with the same colors as on the Toffee except the wings. The wings are stenciled with Salt Water Taffy ink and Heather added a layer of Happy Medium – Iridescent Glitter over the top to add sparkle. Honey cardstock panels with portions of the outline piece from the Honeycomb Cluster die added to the top and bottom create the card backgrounds. The bumblebees are added to the backgrounds along with images and sentiments from the What’s the Buzz? stamp set.
Check out the list below for the supplies that Heather used to create her cards:
Now, let’s take a closer look at the different elements of the kit as well as more inspiration from the TE Creative Team. Note: Most of these items are only available as part of The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit.
Create a background of the cutest bumblebees using The Bee’s Knees Stamp & Stencil Combo set. Stamp the bumblebee stripes and antennae with the background stamp and use the stencils to add the bumblebee bodies, eyes, and wings. Keep the bees intact to use as an all-over background or use the coordinating The Bee’s Knees die collection to cut the bees out to use them individually on your projects.
Lori Craig used The Bee’s Knees Stamp & Stencil Combo set to create the background for this adorable card! The bee stripes and antennae are stamped with Oreo ink, the bodies are added with yellow inks, the eyes and wings are added with gray ink and the wings have layer of Happy Medium – Iridescent Glitter over the top for a touch of sparkle. The background is framed with the largest die from the Frame in Frame 2 Cutting Plate die collection cut from Oreo cardstock and Lori finished the card off with the ‘you are amazing’ sentiment from the Boho Hellos stamp set.
You knew Jill Hawkins was going to add google eyes to these cute bees, right?! I love the unique background that Jill created by cutting around the bumblebees in strips and adding the two outside strips over a background stenciled with the Set the Scene – Clouds and Set the Scene – Grass Stencil Strips sets. Individual bees cut out with the coordinating dies are added over the stenciled background along with the ‘what’s the buzz?’ sentiment and dotted bee trails from the clear stamp set from the kit – more on that stamp set below!
Add sentiments to your bumblebee themed projects with the Clearly Crafty What’s the Buzz? stamp set. The set also includes multi-step stamps to create a single bumblebee, a dotted loop-de-loop bee trail, and several sizes of tiny flower icons. Sentiments included in the set:
- sweet as can bee
- bee happy
- what’s the buzz?
- just bee-cause
- bee you
- buzz
Melody Rupple added sentiments using the What’s the Buzz? stamp set to this happy card. She embossed the ‘bee happy’ sentiment in white on Oreo Cardstock, cut it out with a Double-Ended Flag Stacklets die, and layered it onto a larger hexagon die cut that is stamped with dotted bee trails and the ‘bee you’ sentiment. The bumblebees fill up the background of this card and Melody added a few individual bees around the sentiments, popped up with foam adhesive.
Wanda Guess joined us for The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit release and created this super cute card! Wanda created the bumblebees on Toffee cardstock and added several individual bees, cut out with the coordinating dies, flying over a Honeycomb Cluster die cut. She added the ‘what’s the buzz?’ sentiment stamped in Oreo ink along with a few dotted bee trails from the What’s the Buzz? stamp set to finish off her card.
Add a beehive look to your bumblebee projects with the Honeycomb Cluster die. The die cuts out an outline cluster of hexagons along with lots of little hexagon shapes. There are so many ways that you can incorporate the design on your projects by combining the outline and hexagons or using the elements on their own!
I love all of the different ways that Jen Shults used the Honeycomb Cluster die on this pair of shaker cards that she created with The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit. For the card on the left, she used the outline portion on a couple of the background corners. Inside the shaker, Jen added the hexagon shapes to form a honeycomb look on the same corners, using the outline die cut as a guide to adhere the pieces in place. For the card on the right, Jen used the full outline die cut piece layered behind a few of the bumblebees and filled in some of the openings with the hexagon shapes for a great textured effect.
I love the combination of colors that Kavya used with the Honeycomb Cluster die on this Mini Slim card! She cut out the outline portion of the die cut from Honey cardstock and inset hexagons into the openings that are cut out from Pineapple cardstock. For extra dimension, Kavya added details with markers to the hexagon pieces. The honeycomb is added to a Peaches ‘n’ Cream Mini Slim card base along with bumblebees created with The Bee’s Knees Stamp & Stencil Combo set and little flowers created with the Spring Wreath die collection.
The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit includes 6 envelopes and 6 custom envelope seals that coordinate with the theme of the kit. The six A2 envelopes are 2 each of Honey, Oreo, and Sugar Cube. The coordinating envelope seals are made from durable, weatherproof material and are sure to bring a smile to the recipients of your cards.
Additional The Bee’s Knees Envelope Seals are available to purchase in packages of 10.
Emily Mydlowski took one of The Bee’s Knees Envelope Seals and featured it in the window opening of a Mini Slim trifold card! The Mini Slim trifold card is created with the Mini Slim Trifold Template + Dies – Circle set. The top left photo shows the closed card, the top right photo shows the first flap opened, the bottom left photo shows the card all the way opened, and the bottom right photo shows the back of the card opened all the way. I am in love with how Emily incorporated the design across the entire card! She added several bees, details with the Honeycomb die, and the dotted trail and ‘buzz’ sentiment with the What’s the Buzz? stamp set.
