Today’s video is from Emily Leiphart and she is sharing an out of the box color combination that she used with The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit to create three different card designs. Check out the video below:
In he video, Emily walk through the contents of The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit. Emily decided to create the bumblebees for her projects in a non-traditional color palette instead of using black and yellow inks. She creates the bees in two different color variations using Rose Water, Fruit Punch, Tropical Punch, and Salt Water Taffy inks. The eyes are added with Poppy Seed ink to all of the bumblebees. Then, Emily takes the bumblebees and creates three different card designs.
Here’s a closer look at the cards that Emily creates in the video:
For this first card, Emily cut out bumblebees using the coordinating dies and arranged them on a square of cardstock that is impressed with a Diagonal Stitch Square Stacklets die. Most of the bees are the blue color, except one in the pink colors that is highlighted with a bit of silver glitter cardstock peeking out from behind it.
On this card, Emily created a background by layering Fruit Punch and Tropical Punch cardstock together along with the outline portion of the Honeycomb Cluster die cut from silver glitter cardstock. There are a few of the single hexagons inset in to the honeycomb and then Emily added a few bees, a dotted bee trail, and the ‘sweet as can bee’ sentiment.
This last card features the full background of bumblebees stenciled in the blue color combination. Emily added it to a card base, adding a silver glitter cardstock strip to the left edge and the ‘just bee-cause’ sentiment embossed in white on a Tropical Cardstock strip.
Which one of Emily’s designs in your favorite? It would be fun to take any of these card designs and try them out in different color combinations!
Check out the list below for the supplies that Emily used on her cards:
Here’s another round up of inspiration for The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit from the TE Creative Team:
Emily Mydlowski added the bees from The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit flying by a rainbow created with the Over the Rainbow die using non-traditional colors to match the bees! I love the combination of Oreo, Lemon Meringue, and a black and white check stamped with the Gingham Check Background stamp. The rainbow is finished off with a few clouds cut out with the Rainbow Cloud Duo dies and the ‘be happy’ sentiment is stamped underneath it in Oreo ink.
Here’a another sweet card creation made with The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit from Wanda Guess! The bumblebees are created on Toffee cardstock: the stripes and antenna in black ink, the bodies added with yellow ink, the eyes in black ink, and the wings with Sugar Cube ink with a touch of glitter. The ‘bee happy’ sentiment is embossed in white on black cardstock is added to the background layered over a bit of twine. A few extra bees popped up around the sentiment finish off the card.
This card created by Melody Rupple is full of busy bees! Melody created the background with the Stamp & Stencil Combo set and then layered Honeycomb Cluster die cuts and individual bees cut out with the coordinating dies over the top. The ‘sweet as can bee’ sentiment is embossed in white on Oreo cardstock and cut out with the Simple Strips Backer die.
I just love how Kavya adds the subtle details to her projects using lines and dots with a white gel pen. She did just that on this card pairing the bumblebees with the floral image from the Bursting Blooms stamp set. The background of the card is blended with Mint Julep and Cookie Monster inks and Kavya embossed the ‘sweet as can be’ sentiment in white on a Lollipop cardstock strip.
Check out how Jill Hawkins paired the Honeycomb stencil with the Honeycomb Cluster die cuts to create the background on this card created with The Bee’s Knees Cardmaking Kit. The stenciled design is added to Banana Cream Pie cardstock with Pineapple and Dijon inks and I love that the die cuts have a bit of stitching added to them. Jill added the bees popped up onto the background along with the ‘just bee-cause’ sentiment that is embossed in white on an Oreo Cardstock strip.
Lori Craig used the Honeycomb Cluster die from the kit with Banana Cream Pie, Pineapple, and Honey cardstock to create the background on this adorable card. The honeycomb is layered over another background impressed with the Pierced Lattice Cutting Plate die and framed with a die from the Frame in Frame 3 Cutting Plate (this was a promotional set in June). The card features several bees adhered with foam adhesive to pop them up and the ‘hello sunshine’ sentiment from the Hello Sunshine stamp set.
