    The Stockings Were Hung…

by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there! 🙂 Oh I love “T’was the Night Before Christmas!” Puts me right in the holiday spirit! The first thing I thought of when I saw this little stocking stamp was this poem. I really wanted to recreate the scene playing through my head. This isn’t exactly what I was picturing in my head, but I like how it turned out. I started by stamping the stockings with Timber Brown StazOn onto Very Vanilla cardstock. I colored each stocking a little bit differently with Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Always Artichoke, and Real Red markers. The I distressed the edges with Tim Holtz walnut distress ink and sponged it lightly over the image as well for a “not so clean” look. The stars and trim on the stockings are covered with stardust Stickles. Just a word of advice… let the glitter dry completely before moving on. The color smears very easily when you color with marker and top with Stickles. I messed one up and had to re-color all those stockings. GRRR! After I fixed the image I mounted the Very Vanilla piece onto Real Red. Next I found the wood looking paper from the Stampin’ Up! Timeworn Collection of designer papers. Adhere the stocking image to the designer paper, but only on three sides (left, right, and bottom). Leave the top open so that you can clip the clothespins onto it. Then I adhered the entire piece to Old Olive cardstock and then onto the Artichoke card base. The card base was first stamped with the Aida Cloth BG. Then I picked out matching ribbon, cut a slit in the crease of the card, and ran the ribbon through to tie on the left. The clothespins were natural colored, but I changed the colors by coloring them with markers. Clip the clothespins around the paper and ribbon and that’s about it! The sentiment is from Many Merry Messages and I dirtied it up with walnut distress ink also. I hope you’re in a Christmas mood because I’ll have lots to share in the upcoming days! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
