Taylored Expressions August Studio Challenge
Hey there! I hope you made it through another Monday and you’re ready for some inspiration to start Tuesday! Today the Baker’s Dozen and I are joining together for the August Studio Challenge where we share a glimpse into our stamping studio. Each month we have a fun, crafty question or theme so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more.
Our theme for August is:
The Sky’s the Limit! There are
so many ways to create sky backgrounds for our cards and projects. Sometimes our blog readers are left staring at a beautiful sky and
asking “How’d she do that?”
Show us one of your favorite ways to create a pretty sky background.
I find myself sponging lots of cloudy backgrounds so I decided to try something a little different and do an airbrushed sunrise. Here’s my finished card:
And here are a few step by step photos for creating this same look yourself:
I started by cutting the Ray of Sunshine plate out of masking sheet. I trimmed the die cut in half and adhered it to the top of a 4.25 x 5 piece of Choice Snow White. Then I trimmed an additional strip of masking sheet to keep the color off the bottom half of the card.
I chose my Copic colors (YR23, YR24, YR14, YR18) and began airbrushing with the lightest color and finished with the darkest. I’ve listed them light to dark in the parentheses if you decide to try these same colors yourself.
After removing the mask you can see the white lines left behind. On my card, I used the inner cuts from the masking sheet to cover up the colored portions and then I went back and airbrushed the white lines with the lightest color so that they blended a little better with the sunrise.
After finishing the sunrise, I used the Build a Scene Rolling Hills and the Windy Tree die to finish off the card. I die cut the Windy Tree from Choice Snow White cardstock and colored the branches and leaves with Copics. The ‘dream’ sentiment is part of the Windy Tree die set.
I’m so anxious to check out the sky scenes from the rest of the Baker’s Dozen! These gals always impress me so I know I’ll be picking up some new tips and tricks along the way!
