Blog Design Team: The Sea of Love
TGIF! We’ve switched into high gear here at Taylored Expressions in preparation for next week’s HUGE June Release. We’re happy to take a wee break in order to share a sweet project created by Blog Design Team member, Caryn Davies. She shows us how to take a stamp you may think of as just for kids and use it to create something any adult would love!
Plus, to help you make your own sea-worthy projects, we’re giving away the stamp set Caryn used to create her project! Keep reading for details…
Caryn’s Note: Although at first glance the Under the Sea stamp set looks like a
cute, child-like set of images, I think it is also perfect for more
grown-up designs such as the one I am sharing with you today.
Caryn’s Notes: For this card I pulled out one of my newly acquired gadgets – the Tim
Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer. I’ve “spritzed” two areas of my card – the
sand and the water above. For the sand effect I used a sheet of masking
paper and die cut it with one of the border dies from the Build a Scene
– Rolling Hills set. I masked off the top of a panel of white card and
then used 3 complimentary, sandy-coloured Copic markers and spritzed my
heart out! The ink dries instantly so I then turned my panel
upside down, covered the sand area and then selected some blue Copics
and spritzed again, giving me a lovely speckled effect for the water.
Caryn’s Notes: Now I was ready to start building my under-the-sea scene. I stamped the
sea weed image on either side of the panel and coloured them with
Copics . There is a “shoal of fish” stamp in this set which I inked and then stamped off once on a piece of scrap paper
so that I could achieve a paler color and give the effect of the fish
being far off in the distance. I stamped and colored the seahorses and clam and then got busy with
the scissors (a little patience and a steady hand required here!!) to
cut them all out. I added the bubbles with a touch of color and added some glitter. I added a bit of
raffia (from a plant I was given for Mother’s Day!) around the bottom
of the panel and then mounted it using foam tape onto the white card
base. The sentiment (from Bikes and Trikes) finished the project
nicely.
Supplies: Under the Sea, Bikes & Trikes (sentiment); Build-a-Scene – Rolling Hills, Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer
