Blog Design Team: Hooked on You!
Happy weekend! It’s been a crazy week, but we are getting settled back in! We are so excited to share an absolutely darling project from Blog Team Member Amy Shefferthat is just perfect for a weekend of crafting…
Amy’s Notes: The new Punny Love stamp set and coordinating Little Bits dies are just
too cute for words! As soon as I saw them, I knew they would be perfect
for my kids’ valentines. Our elementary school no longer allows kids to
give candy for Valentine exchanges, and finding creative alternatives
can be tricky. Punny Love to the rescue!
Amy’s Notes: The Fishing Pole dies
and the “I’m hooked on you” sentiment are especially cute. I thought it
would be fun to create a sparkly fish pond shaker in the open space of a
Pockets & Pages – 3×4 Part of My Heart die-cut. I cut the top frame
from a woodgrain patterned paper. The acetate window is just a 3×4
rectangle with rounded corners (which can also be quickly die-cut using the Pockets & Pages 3×4 Essentials). I stamped the sentiment onto a
strip of Sugar Cube card stock. It felt like the sentiment strip was too
weighty for the project, so I trimmed down the sentiment along the
contours of the letters to reduce its profile. It feels just right now!
Amy’s Notes: Behind that is a stack of five more Part
of My Heart card stock die-cuts to create enough depth for the shaker
sequins. The back panel of the shaker is the 3-1/2 x 4- 1/2” Sugar Cube
card base, which has been sponged along the bottom with Broken China
Distress Ink. I die-cut two fishing rods, one from Sugar Cube card stock
and the other from Oreo card stock, so that I could have the fishing
line be a different color than the pole.
Amy’s Notes: The
fish has a tiny wood veneer heart, a black glaze pen dot for an eye,
sponging for contour, and a shimmery coating of clear Wink of Stella. It
sounds like a lot for one little fish, but it takes very little time,
and it’s those little extras that make you want to come back for a
second look. Those fun little details are often my favorite part of the
creative process, too.
Amy’s Notes: I finished the inside with more sponging along
the bottom, as well as a happy valentine’s day sentiment, also from
Punny Love, in a die-cut heart. There’s plenty of room inside for a “to”
and “from or an additional message. For those of you with young kids,
do you make or buy their Valentines? Do your kids make their own, or do
you make them? Let me know in the comments!
How sweet is this card? You can find more of Amy’s wonderful work on her blog, Pickled Paper Designs. Have a joyful day!
