Introducing: Stained Glass Cross, Old Rugged Cross, and More!

Hey there, crafty friends! It’s the second day of sneak peeks for our February Release and I’m very excited about the projects I’m sharing with you today! Easter is a very meaningful holiday as our family celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. The cross is a powerful symbol of His promise and I’m thrilled to introduce several new crosses to our collection of dies. I hope you’ll find many uses for them both during the season of Easter and beyond!

All of the new products will be available for purchase at the TE web store beginning on Thursday, February 5th at 7am PST! In the meantime, check out the prize that’s up for grabs today! Just leave a comment for your chance to win!

Today we’re giving away the Stained Glass Cross Cutting Plate!
Enter to win by leaving a comment on this blog post before Wednesday, February 4th at 11:59pm PST. One entry per person. Each comment will be automatically entered into our Grand Prize drawing for a $50 Gift Certificate to the TE Store! Winners will be chosen at random and announced on Thursday, February 5th, 2015.

Both of my projects today use the Stained Glass Cross Cutting Plate. My first idea was to use a couple of my favorite new products from CHA to create this gold leaf beauty:
I’ll have a video coming soon showing how to use the Stick It and foil to create this project. Or you can ‘stick’ with me here and I’ll explain how I made this. *grin* I started by taking a piece of Stick It cut down to 4″ x 5.25″ (the size of the cutting plate). I peeled one side off and stuck it down on a piece of Buttercream Frosting Cardstock.
With the other side of the adhesive backing still attached, I die cut the piece with the Stained Glass Cross Cutting Plate. After die cutting, I peeled away the removable backing and covered the design with gold leaf. I used a gold leaf I’ve had in my drawer for ages, but we also have several foils to choose from at the TE Store. The foil I used is variegated so that’s why my cutting plate takes on several different colors.
For a long time gold leaf was intimidating to me. I loved the look of it, but just didn’t think I could figure it out. The Stick It adhesive makes it really easy and I can’t wait to try it with more of my dies.
After the gold leafing was finished I cut the plate again from a patterned paper in the Watercolored Memories 6×6 Paper Pack and pieced the design inside. The small rectangles around the outside of the card and the outside of the cross were pieced using Buttercream Cardstock (or you could just overlay your foiled piece onto cream cardstock to save time!).
I didn’t want to cover up any of the design on the front of my card so I decided to add my sentiment inside. And that gave me the opportunity to use another one of our new die sets; Old Rugged Cross. This set includes three crosses, the largest of which fits perfectly inside the one on the Stained Glass cutting plate.
I embossed a sentiment from He is Risen with gold embossing powder, added the grass border, and cut the drape from the same watercolor paper that I used on the front of the card.

My second card happened a little by accident. After cutting out the Stained Glass Cross Cutting Plate from the Watercolored Memories patterned paper, I used the inner parts to piece the above design. I was left with a really pretty outer portion that I couldn’t just drop in the garbage so I whipped up this card:

I cut a frame from purple cardstock so that the outer and inner small rectangles would be covered. Then I popped the plate up on foam tape so that you could see the dimension. I think this picture shows the dimension a little better:
To finish it off I added a sentiment from He is Risen stamped onto vellum and embossed with gold embossing powder.
I haven’t had a chance to try out the other crosses from this release, but I’m really happy with how these cards turned out and I can’t wait to share them with family and friends this Easter!
