Blog Design Team: Keep Calm and Soak Up the Sun!
Today’s project from Blog Team Member Amy Sheffer is the perfect solution to the mid-week doldrums. One look and you’ll be looking forward to the weekend for sure!
And now, here’s Amy to tell us all about her project…
Here we are, well into July, when both the thermometer and the calendar
scream SUMMER. Let’s grab our towels and head for the pool deck, where
we can kick off our flip-flops and soak up some sun. While we’re at it,
I’ll tell you about today’s card.
I started by creating a fun, sunshiny
beach towel. I stamped a sentiment from Big Bold Summer in VersaMark on Sugar Cube card stock and heat embossed in white. Next I used an ink blending tool and Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmalade, and Worn Lipstick
Distress Inks to add color, blending the colors for a gradient effect.
(Tip: remember to use a paper towel or clean, dry cloth to wipe off any
excess ink from the white embossing. This ensures the embossed sentiment
is bright white.)
To finish the towel, I used some paper snips to cut
fringe on both ends.
The flip-flops were die-cut with the new Flip Flop Garland
die set. With four different sizes of flip flops, this set is sure to
have the right size for just about any project you come up with. When I
adhered the flip flop straps, I used adhesive on just the ends and
point. That allowed me to curve the straps for some dimension. I adhered
the towel and flip flops to a piece of herringbone woodgrain paper from
Crate Paper’s Flea Market 6×6 collection. In this context, that pattern looks just like a deck, don’t you think?
For the water, I die-cut two wave layers using the Build A Scene – Rolling Waves dies and a water pattern from Crate Paper’s Poolside 6×6 collection.
And that completes our poolside scene! Are you more of a beach person
than a pool person? If so, try swapping out the woodgrain for some kraft
card stock for a ‘beach-y’ look.
Thank you for getting us through the next few days and into the weekend, Amy! You can find more of Amy’s beautiful work on her blog, Pickled Paper Designs. Have a joyful day!
