Blog Design Team: Tons of FUN

Today is a special day as it’s new Blog Team Designer Lisa Henke‘s debut post! We are so tickled by her adorable birthday card and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Plus, to celebrate Lisa’s first day, we’re doing a giveaway! Keep reading for details…

And now, here’s Lisa to tell us all about her project…

I am so excited to share my first project with the TE Blog team, and a
little bit nervous! One of my favorite new-to-me dies is the Pockets & Pages 3×4 Photo Frame.
Instead of using it as a frame, I decided to keep the middle panel in
place so I could create a water colored background panel for my card. (I
simply flipped it over and used tape to hold it together.) I used Peeled
Paint and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and the ‘smooshing’ technique for
my water colored background.

I have found that the
smooshing technique is my favorite way to create pretty backgrounds like
this. Many crafters use a craft sheet, but if you don’t have one on hand, you can use a sheet of acetate. I pressed the ink on it and then spritzed with water.
Then I ‘smooshed’ the acetate onto water colored card stock. I love that the
acetate is flexible, allowing you to get the color right where you want
it. I set this panel aside to dry and then moved on to coloring.

Giraffes are one of my favorite zoo animals so it was the first image I inked up from the adorable Wild About You stamp set. I colored him up with my copics and colored up a trio of the leaf image in the set while I had out my markers. The matching Wild About You Dies made cutting these images out a snap.

I
stamped the sentiment onto a circle and turned it into a little tag
with a 1/8″ circle punch and bakers twine. I tucked the leaves behind
the tag and and popped it all up with some foam tape. The finishing
touch on the card was a die-cut red balloon Little Bits – Balloons. I gave it a coating of glossy accents. A little bit of hemp twine was added so the giraffe could hold it.

    Went to the Phoenix Wild Life Zoo in May 2015. You can feed the giraffes there. It was fun to place pellet food on their unusual purple tongues.

    My sister and I both have birthday in May, a week apart and as children we always celebrated together. Now that we're adults, we still get together with family for our birthdays and several years ago that included a trip to the zoo. We had a large group and I'm sure that the zoo animals were as intrigued by our crew as we were with them! I always love critter cards and these are adorable!!

    The last time I went to a zoo was about 6 years ago. I took my granddaughter to a small local zoo. I smiled at a monkey and it got upset. Apparently, they take a grin as a threat because the teeth are barred. Won't do that again, lol.

    Its been a few years since I last visited the zoo. My sister, sister-in-law and mom spent the whole day meandering around from exhibit to exhibit admiring all the magnificent creatures that are a part of our world, it was magical!!! I truly love the zoo and can't wait to visit one soon!! ❤

    The last time I went to the zoo was in 2005. I went to visit my fiance and took my youngest son along. I took my son to the Portland Zoo for a day while my fiance was working. We had a blast!!

    I go to the zoo every Christmas for Winter Wonderland!! The zoo is covered in lights for the Christmas holiday from Nov. to January. It's amazing!! Went a few weeks ago too trying to see the nesting Bald Eagles!!

    A few years ago my hubby and I took a vacation to San Diego and went to the San Diego zoo. We discovered "meerkats" at the zoo, which look like small gophers. When we came home to Chicago, PBS had a series on, you guessed it, meerkats!!! The card is too cute!

    What an amazing debut card, all the colours are gorgeous!! Haven't been to the zoo for about 7yrs. We used to live in Wellington (Capital of New Zealand) but moved back to my home town of Blenheim 7yrs ago to be closer to my parents and live in a smaller community. Certainly no Zoo here unfortunately but we did go to Sea World on the Gold Coast, Australia 3yrs ago, does that count???

    We actually just went to the zoo about 2 weeks ago when our friend, who is an elementary school teacher won free tickets! My two girls, aged 4 and 20 months had a ball seeing all the animals! It was fun and educational.

    My last time to the zoo was when we were on holiday in Spain. In the place I live we have a zoo with only monkeys. The little ones walk with the visitors and that is so much fun. They can climb on your shoulder when you are walking through this zoo.

    There is only one zoo here in Puerto Rico. It is a three hours drive away from where I live. The last time I visited it my daughters were very young, about 5 or 6 years old. That was nearly 20 years ago. It was a fun trip. My daughters loved it.

    OMGosh…that first and last time I went to the zoo, my Mom let me feed the animals and this deer followed me out of the gate. The Keeper was so upset with me and I was so scared as the deer would not stop following me that I cried and cried. Afterwards, my Mom got me an ice cream cone and all was better.
    I have a passion for animals now and your giraffe is amazing. So cute it really made me smile. So very nicely done!!!

    Zoo… two years ago. But better than a zoo… Cade's Cove in the Smokey Mountains NP… Drove through 5 different times over 4 days and each time saw bears and deer and other wildlife in their natural habitat and not in cages. Loved it! (also love your adorable giraffe!)

    The last time I went to the zoo was on our vacation to California. I had a blast! We had dinner in a tree house which was great. The Polar Bears were my favorite animals to watch as they played with a ball in a pool. They looked so cute! It was such an exciting day.

    Love this card! I have this stamp and die set, and this gives me the push I need to USE it! Love the balloon on the string in the giraffe's "mouth".

    Last time I was at a zoo, I took my granddaughters in Saskatoon. It is a really unique place, focusing on ecology, and since the girls had been involved in several of their programs, they were delighted to teach me all about the animals and the environment.

    Funny story: The last time I went to the zoo I got to feed a giraffe but we missed the photo op! So I tried to reenact feeding him for the camera but the giraffe got mad because there wasn't any food and gave my head a little whack with his chin! And, yes! We got that on camera!

    I love timeless products, Julia, that will do double duty and typically, that is how I shop and choose what to purchase. Unless, I have extra money to spend any way I want or win and gift card and then I will shop for the holiday coming up and get something I don't have yet. Which might be wierd. LOL Great baby card. Earliest memory…hmmm…probably 3 years old…my favorite thing to do was push my tricycle up the driveway (a steep gravel incline) and free wheel back down with my feet up in the air because the pedals went too fast for them! I also would ride my bike on the car port over the water hose because it was fun and bumpy, I rode over to the screen door and tried to open it to tell mama something, and my bike tipped and I cut my forehead on a huge pickling jar. How about getting my arm caught in the roller on the washing machine, even though mama told me not to put my hand in the rollers! Or touching the clothes iron, even though Mama told me it was Hot! Or Don't park your horse on the heater grate. He never rolled again and I loved riding him!! LOL It was a traumatic year! Don't isn't in my vocabulary. Thanks, Paulette S.

    My earliest childhood memory is of seeing my Grandma and Grandpa get off an airplane. They had gone to Spain. I was so glad to see them. I remember it very vividly!

My earliest childhood memory is not being able to sleep one night and going to find my dad at work at his drawing table – he pulled me on his lap and sang me a little country song – It started " I love little baby ducks" – I have since found out that it is sung by Tom T Hall and that he was one of my dad's favorite singers!!!

    Earliest memory…. hmmm. can't think of one thing in particular, but I do have special photos of me at a theme park that took awhile for me to place where it was taken. It was Disneyland in its early years! I was born the same year the park opened, so I was probably only about 3 or 4 at the time. And to this day, Disneyland still holds all the magic for me as it did then.

    My earliest childhood memory was when I was a tiny baby in my bassinet. I remember the sides of the bassinet. My eyes were closed but not all the way closed so I could see the shadowy images of two people. One was my mother. I know this because I remember hearing her tell the other person "She's sleeping." That's the earliest memory I have.

    I think I was in kindergarten and I remember a group of us would play hanging games on the monkey bars. One time I lost my grip and fell, I didn't break anything but I bit my tongue and I remember it bleeding a lot but I didn't need stitches.

    I was in kindergarten sitting on the floor singing songs and when I stood up I had ants in my pants – literally!!!! I remember I had white panties on under my dress and when I stood up I had a few ants on me, I wasn't scared I started laughing. Needless to say my mom took me home and I never went back to that Kindergarten haha.

    Blimey, that's a long time ago……I do remember (and my Mum confirms) that when I was around 2yrs old they gave me a kitten for Xmas in a baby pram. I picked it up by the neck and carried it around before they realised and rescued it (thankfully not injured). Tuppence and I were the best of friends and a few years later when my Mum took me and my brother to Australia for 4 weeks (to visit family) Tuppence sat at the gate waiting for me to come back. He wouldn't eat or drink and eventually he had to be put down because no one could ease his missing me. So sad…….

    The funny thing is that I don't have any memories of childhood until I was about 4! I remember playing at preschool with my friends and pretending that we were characters in a TV show. I also remember our first pet, a sweet kitty named Tina.
    Speaking of pets, we also had rabbits when I got a bit older so these bunny dies are really sweet to see!

    One of my earliest childhood memories is on VHS! LOL it's shortly after we came to the U.S. and it's just a typical day in our lives…my dad even recorded us going on a car ride! Too cute!

    Now this is stretching back into the Jurassic, but my first memories are of sitting in a little blow up pool in our Kingswood backyard with my baby sister and our neighbours. My little sister is only 18 months younger so I don't really have memories of her until I was nearly 4. But Mum always said when my sister was really sick as a baby and in hospital and I was about 2yrs old that I wanted the light on while I slept because I was afraid the white coats had taken my sister away and would never return her. Before that and ever since I have loved total pitch blackness at bedtime.

    My earliest childhood memory is of my youngest sister coming home from the hospital as a newborn. I was 5 years old and I remember thinking that her face looked red and squashed and that she cried too much! I wasn't very impressed, to say the least. We are now great friends as adults but all I could think of her at the time was that I wished she'd leave!!
    These bunny dies and the cards are just adorable and so fun for spring!

    You are getting us to look back in time! Memories are a bit fuzzy at times, especially when I am tired like today. There is a fond memory that while not the earliest, is great. It includes my mom taking me to buy school supplies, and us having "grown-up" lunches at a restaurant. Enchanting!

    I was a HUGE FAN of my Baby Sister when my Parents brought her home from the Hospital!! I would help my mom and I just WATCHED and LEARNED soaking up EVERY little thing I could!! When she was about 9 months old (I was 2 1/2) I finally decided I had WAITED LONG enough and I was going to give her a Baby!! I sat her in the Middle of the Living Room floor while my mom was around the corner folding clothes and grabbed the WHOLE ENTIRE bottle of Baby Shampoo!! I removed the ENTIRE LID and just poured it over her as she sat on the Living Room Floor (carpet)!! She started to Scream and I was like what is gong on!!?? My mom came running in and she just couldn't believe her eye!! She did pause to take a couple Pictures though and too this day it is still a UN conversation!! My Sister thinks its CRAZY that mom stopped to take a Picture especially when you can tell by the Photo that she was REALLY UPSET!! =) HAHAHAHAHA I LOVE old Pictures/Memories/Stories and the Pictures that go along with them!! Such a SWEET Card!! I LOVE the Design!! THANKS SO MUCH for sharing and have a Fabulous Week!! =)

    One of my favorite memories is: in the summer, after taking a bath and putting on crisp cotton pajamas, I would sit on the front porch with my father and people watch. It was just the 2 of us on the porch ( my brother and sisters were inside with my mother) . It was peaceful and a beautiful memory I will never forget.

    One of my earliest memories was of going with my father to take my brother lunch when he started school. My brothers lunch consisted of a pie, doughnut and a bottle of coke! My brother promptly ate the doughnut first!! I also remember having a tantrum because I wanted to stay at the school with my brother!! (my brother was 18 months older than me and died after having a brain bleed in March). Some other memories around the same time are of going out to the back yard and pulling carrots out of the ground and washing them under the tap and crunching on the juicy fresh carrots!! There are a couple of others but this comment would be too long!! This is a gorgeously creative card and I will have to see what ideas I can come up with too!!     I just LOVE your sweet bunny card! One of my earliest memories was watching the very first moon landing with my parents when I was about 3 years old. I remember seeing it on TV and hearing my dad telling me Look, it's Neil Armstrong! Later, I could name all the astronauts and facts about the moon mission! My parents were so proud!

    I remember running around the house laughing and my parents chasing me. My mom catches me, holds my arm tightly and a big flash. For some reason they wanted a picture of me at 2 years old. You can see her arm in the picture. I guess this was the only way they could take my picture.

    I remember the day my Mother told me that she was going to have a baby. She told me that I was going to have a little brother or sister to play with. I was so excited! I can still see that day in my head. I even remember the clothes that I was wearing and exactly what I was doing when she told me. It was a boy and I loved taking care of him. To this day I have a special bond with him. I was almost 4 years old.

    Wow – this is gorgeous! Absolutely love all the layers and details. I have a twin sister who seems to remember many more of our childhood details than I do. I remember hitting her in the nose with a shovel in the winter. We were helping and she kept backing up and when I swung the shovel, she was tight behind me.

    I remember my first day of Kindergarten….My mom walked me up to the class holding my hand. I Look at the room full of kids, to her, back to the room. I Say "Ok….Bye Mommy!!" and scamper off to play with the kids. But I look back and my mom is in tears, so I run back over to her. Nudge her down to my level and whisper, "It's ok Mommy, you can have me back later!" Kiss her cheek and rush off again. :o)

    Such an adorable card! Love the fluffy tail! My earliest memory is from when I was about 3, watching my Mom walk down the aisle at her wedding. I wanted to see her after she went past, so I leaned out…and fell into the aisle. Now THAT got some attention! lol

    I remember I had the biggest bycicle in Kindergarden! And although I was only 3 years old and among the youngest (the oldest were 6), my PINK (of course!) bike -which I got from the neighbour's girl when she grew ou of it- was GIGANTIC in comparison to all other bikes in Kindergarden & I loved it so much!     My earliest childhood memory is my great grandparents 75th wedding anniversary celebration. I was about three. They seemed so old to me! There was a beautifully decorated cake. All their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were there. It was 62 years ago, and I remember it like yesterday.

    I remember riding my tricycle with a glass jar of sand on the back. Didn't get far before the jar fell off and broke and sand went everywhere. I remember getting in trouble for it and I think there was also a cut involved from trying to pick up the broken glass and not understanding how sharp it can be! Thanks for the chance to win.

    I remember playing with my Papaw on the living room floor with my new chalkboard. I just loved him so much! I was almost 6 when he died. It was the first time I saw my Dad cry. I kept asking my Mom when Papaw was going to wake up. I know this is a sad, but he was my world and vice versa. Plus, my name was his mother's maiden name, as well as his middle name. I miss Papaw very much, but he is always in my heart! Thank you for the giveaway!

    My earliest childhood memory is very frightening–being left in an iron crib in a dimly lit hall and a lady in a white uniform and cap walking away from me. It sounds like I was in a hospital, oddly enough I never asked about it. For a fun memory I remember time spent with my two best friends when I was pre-kindergarten age. They were much older than me-6th graders? junior high? and one time they walked me up to their school and showed me around. I was so impressed to be in the big kids' school.

    I remember jumping in the lake as a little girl – maybe 3 or 4? I thought I'd like to go swimming like the "big kids" (my older brothers and sisters) and I didn't know why everyone was so upset with me when they had to jump in after me. I didn't even realize they had rescued me!! LOL!!

    I love bunnies all year 'round too! As for earliest childhood memory, most of mine are bad – very rough childhood – and I'd rather not think about it again. I'm sure there were some happy moments but I can't remember any.

    Great card, Julia. Very soft and pretty! My earliest childhood memory is of the lights on the Christmas tree. Way back then, we had the "sugared" lights with all of the beautiful colors. Love those lights!

    My earliest childhood memory was when I was 5 or 6. My sister and I would hear the ice cream truck coming through our neighborhood and would run to get the blue elephant bank. We would start shaking it hard to get 12 cents to buy two ice creams. That is a precious memory!

    I grew up living in a refugee camp in Thailand from age 5 until 9 before the government approved our sponsorship by my uncle to come to the U.S. So my early childhood was 360 degree opposite of what my friends grew up knowing. I didn't know what running water, electricity, TV or that kids get to have their birthday celebrated since that was only been done for grown ups only to celebrate long life. So on my first day in the U.S. (Illinois) in our new home, I was mesmerized by the lights and the TV. I remembered climbing up on the bathroom sink countertop and staring right up at the wall light as I flap the light switch on and off and later on just sat up closed to the TV screen for hours until my mom pulled me away. These things were like magic to me and a privilege.

    I remember walking to town when I was 4 or 5. No body was home and I was dropped off by the school bus; they were supposed to take me to Grandma's house. So, I remembered the way. I had to rest on a rock and that is where my Mom found me. I love the card Julia made. I need to take her advice and think outside of the box and see what my stamps and dies and create.

    My first memory is very vague. I was sitting on a back wooden porch with a brown railing and my brothers were playing in the stone driveway. It was a rental house and that is my only memory from before I was 4~ Not very exciting!

    My birthday is January 2, and my earliest memory is celebrating my birthday on New Year's day with hats, noisemakers, and of course my mom's homemade pound cake!

    My earliest memory was being in a playpen in the living room as my Mom was giving my older sister piano lessons. (She's 8 years older.) The playpen was from the 1950's and wood. I remember trying to escape by pushing the floor pad aside, pulling the floor board up and weaseling under and out. God bless her! She had her hands full with me!

    I remember one Christmas after we opened presents, my Mom took me by the hand and we walked out in the garage. She told me that she thought Santa dropped one of my presents and Lo and Behold, there on the floor of the garage was a package of underwear. Boy, did I ever believe in Santa. And, I sure miss my Mom!

    My childhood was a L O N G time ago! I remember a circle skirt someone had given me as a hand me down. It was too big for me: went all the way to my ankles. But I loved it! Would put it on and go outside to dance, twirling around and watching the skirt swirl out around me. My mom decided that if I liked the skirt so much, she would cut it down to size and rehem it. A lot of work I am sure. But I never really loved the skirt so much after that 🙁
