Blog Design Team: Merrily & Brightly Colored Christmas!
Happy crafty day, friends! Today Blog Design Team member, Sharon Harnist has created a bright and fun Christmas card using our new 3″x4″ Watercolor Panels that’ll have you reaching for your ink and paintbrush. Plus, she offers up some fab tips on how to keep control when coloring with water. Check it out!
Now let’s hear from Sharon about her project…
Taylored Expressions’ new 3”x4” Watercolor Panel – Christmas packs are
pre-printed with 12 different designs, ready for you to quickly color and add to
any kind of papercrafting project! These fabulous panels combine two current
hot trends: watercolor and adult coloring books! You can use any kind of
coloring medium you’d like on these heavyweight textured watercolor paper
panels, and I combined two different inks – Copic markers and
Distress Ink.To begin, I used some unexpected, not-so-traditional Christmas BRIGHT colors in the form of Copic
markers BG05, RV09, and YG25 to color the tiny string of light
bulbs. I did this for two reasons: 1. Markers are a little easier to control the color on
such a tiny shape; and 2. To keep those tiny bits of color true and to prevent
them from bleeding and disappearing into the greenery background. The Copic ink
is waterproof, so it won’t bleed when the watercolor is applied later!Next, I watercolored the tree branches with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink. To
do this, you can just tap the ink pad onto a non-stick craft sheet, acrylic
block, or acetate packaging, then use a waterbrush to pick up the color, adding
water if necessary. While waiting for the tree branches to dry, I used BG05 and RV09
Copic markers to color the “Merry” and “Bright” words. Next, I
used Twisted Citron Distress Ink to watercolor the background – right over the
Copic colored words! To finish my card, I covered the light bulbs with Star Dust Stickles and
added a Star Stacklets star die cut from gold foil paper to the
“Bright” word. The watercolor panel was popped up with Foam
Tape on a Lollipop card base, with a Sugar
Cube cardstock Frame in Frame Cutting Plate frame added.I know you will love these 3”x4” Watercolor Panels as much as
I do!
