Blog Design Team: Gridlock Can Be a Good Thing!
Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Today we’ve got a real treat for you from Design Team member Amy Kolling, who has created a wonderful card that will get you inspired to create something joyful. Check it out…
Now, let’s hear from Amy about her project…
Now that the holidays are over, there are several birthdays to
celebrate in our house! (Editor: a little birdy told us that tomorrow just might be Amy’s, so wish her a happy birthday!) Since the new year is approaching, I thought it would be a good time to
start on my birthday card stash. Today I have a totally flat card (except
for the balloons) to share!I began my card with a really fun die from Taylored Expressions called Gridlocked.
I began by die-cutting it 3 times out of colored cardstock scraps. I
wanted to use the die as a stencil for adding this pattern to a standard
card front. I adhered the Gridlocked die-cut to the upper left of my
card with Post-It Note tape (you can also use washi or removable tape.) Using sponge daubers, I sponged on yellow,
pink, and aqua pigment ink. (Tip: Remember, when using pigment
ink, you can use an eraser if you make a mistake!)I
used a stencil for each color of ink I was sponging so I didn’t
contaminate the colors and make new colors. (Don’t ask me how I know this, ha ha!)
I worked my way across the whole panel and by using the sponge daubers,
it was really easy to add ink to just the square I wanted to.Once
my background was completed, I trimmed the card down just a bit because
the sponged pattern didn’t go clear to the right side. So it became
just shy of an A2 card size. My sentiment, from Free Spirit, was stamped in black ink — love the bold sentiment on the pastel background! To finish this off, I sponged some of the coordinating pigment inks onto scratch white cardstock and die-cut the mini Balloons.
This way, everything was “matchy matchy!” The balloons were embellished
with white crochet strands for the strings and added with foam adhesive.
Thanks so much, Amy, for sharing wonderful birthday card and sponging technique with us today! You can catch more of Amy’s design work on her blog, Stamp-n-Paradise. Have a joyful day!
