Guest Blogger: Let’s Indulge with Vera Wirianta Yates
Good day to you all, crafty friends! We’ve got something so fabulous to announce today that we are practically dancing in the halls. This month, we are lucky to welcome the wonderful Vera Wirianta Yates to the TE Blog as a Guest Blogger! Many of you out there will be familiar with Vera’s work, whether through her blog, Ling’s Design Studio, or through her charitable work with her annual Caring Hearts Card Drive. We love her fresh, clean style and her beautiful coloring skills. We’d like to welcome Vera with a fun giveaway, too, so read on for details!
First, let’s get to know Vera a little better!
Vera, who also goes by her nickname, Ling, was born and raised in Indonesia, and has lived in Texas for the past two decades. She and her husband enjoy their 3 “furry kids” and Vera works full-time as a purchasing manager for a home builder in Houston. A lifelong crafter, her first love is paper crafting, which began with a scrapbook class in 1997 and card making soon after. Vera has designed for many companies and when she is not in her craft space, she can be found traveling, playing with her beloved pets, reading, and taking in a movie or two. Dog rescue is a cause very close to her heart (she is a certified PUG nut!) Always giving, Vera launched the Caring Hearts Card Drive in 2010 after her mom suggested she put all her cards to good use. Caring Hearts brings joy to the elderly living in nursing homes in the US, Canada, and Australia by sending them holiday cards. In its first year, the drive collected 750 cards. Since then, with the help of her friend Jennifer McGuire, donated cards swelled to an amazing 21,000 cards last year. In 2016, plans are underway to send cards to the UK as well!
Here is the darling card Vera created for her first project with us…
Now let’s hear from Vera on how she created this sweet card!
When I saw the Sweet Tooth Tower set, I had to have this set. It is just the perfect size and the cupcakes are so fun to color. And, I love critter stamps, so needless to say I thought it’d be perfect to combine the cupcake tower with the lion from Mane Event set to create a fun birthday scene. Here are some step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Trim light blue panel to size and adhere. Trim patterned paper from Hello Happiness Paper Pack. Adhere with adhesive.
Step 2: Stamp, die-cut, and color the cupcake tower and lion. Adhere to card base with foam dots.
Step 3: Stamp sentiment.
Step 4: Adhere sequins.
Step 5: Add shimmer to cupcakes with a shimmer pen.
Here’s a close up look of the image so you can see the pretty shimmer on the cupcakes.
Isn’t the shimmer just so pretty? Looking at these cupcakes makes me want to get some! Hah! We can indulge outside our birthday, right? I hope you enjoy today’s card!
Thank you so much, Vera, for joining us today! We can’t wait to see what you whip up next. Join us next week for another project from Vera. Now, let’s all welcome Vera with a giveaway!
