Blog Design Team: Ray of Birthday Sunshine
Today, Blog Design Team member Cindy Lawrence has created an absolutely stunning white on white birthday card that takes advantage of texture and dies for a striking pop of color!
And now, here’s Cindy to tell us all about her project…
I do so love the look of white on white. Throw in a few pops of color, and it just says fresh & cheerful, don’t you think? I stamped the gorgeous Spring Tulips image onto some X-Press It Blending Card with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then colored it up with a springy selection of Copic markers.
To create the transparent look of the vase, I began by coloring it with my BV20 Copic marker. Then I let it dry most of the way before using my Colorless Blender to push the color towards the edges. Simply color with your Colorless Blender in a circular motion, beginning in the center of the image. Work your way towards the edges until most of the color has faded out of the center and settled along the edges. This particular color has a wonderful pale blue undertone, which works so beautifully for water. I then added a touch of R81 to the edges of the vase for some color interest, and to tie it in with the tulips.
I colored the tulips themselves by feathering two Copic colors together, Y35 from the top & R83 from the bottom. Once the colors had dried, I used my Colorless Blender to create the stripey look on the petals. Once I finished coloring the image entirely, I wrapped a few strands of white crochet thread around the vase, and tied it in a pretty bow.
The jar is resting on a pretty white brick background, created with the Brick Embossing Folder.
I love the way the new Picture Perfect – Sunny Days die looks a little like a window. So, I went with that looking, giving the appearance of the vase of tulips sitting by a bright, sunny window. Adding a trio of sunshiny enamel dots gives it just the right touch of warmth.
The “Happy Birthday” sentiment was stamped on Sugar Cube card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and die-cut with the Banner Stacklets 1 die set.
Not to forget the inside of the card, the tulips were stamped again in multiple colors and set beneath a Brick Embossing Folder panel. The perfect sentiment was stamped at the top in black ink.
Thank you for sharing this gorgeously colored card with us today, Cindy! You can find more of Cindy’s fabulous work on her blog, The Creative Closet. Have a joyful day!
