Catching Up with Kim: More Frosting, Anyone?
It’s Friday, crafty peeps! So, as you saw in yesterday’s post, we are going BIG with our Ninth Birthday Bash with a chance for you to win some fab prizes and a Grand Prize for one lucky crafter to be a Guest designer for TE — I can’t wait to see all those cards being created (and sent out) to share joy! Since I’ve got birthdays on my mind, I’m sharing this gorgeous shaker card by Kim Singdahlsen. I’ve been catching up with Kim all week long and she’s had such a terrific summer hanging out with her family, including her two boys. I love the story behind this card that Kim shared on her blog, Joyful Creations with Kim. Check it out…
Here’s a note from Kim about her project:
I have two sons – now ages 17 and 21. For reasons I can’t begin to explain – they don’t do frosting. (One of them never did pudding or jello either!) But I do do frosting! When they were young and wanted grocery store theme cakes for their birthday – I still ordered the sugared frosting. They had no idea there was a whipped cream type alternative. Then I always took the corner piece with the piles of frosting – and even then, ate the frosting that they scraped off their pieces!
I used Simply Stamped – Cupcakes to create this delicious-looking frosted cupcake, stamping in Cupcake Matched Premium Ink for the solid base later. Then the middle layer was stamped in Pink Champagne, stamped off once. The top layer is full strength Pink Champagne. The set also comes with a layered set for the cupcake base, but I wanted a hint of pattern so I die-cut the base and then dug out my old crimper to add dimension.
The ‘frame’ is actually a label die! I was digging through my stash and came up with Label Stacklets 7 as a nice cupcake-shaped label for a sentiment and noticed that the largest stacklet could cut all the way across the card front, framing the cupcake quite nicely. Finally, I embossed the Bead Board Embossing Folder and sprinkled with a few sequins.
You know, I have always been a bit with Kim’s boys on the whole frosting question. (I always ate all the cake parts and left piles of rich, buttercream frosting on my plate, much to the horror of my sweet-toothed husband!) But, when I see the frosting on her cupcake card, I think I may need to reassess this opinion. How about you?
Thank you, Kim, for sharing this darling card! I love that sweet pink bow, don’t you? Be sure to come back on Monday as we kick off our big birthday bash! Have a joyful weekend!
