• Kookie

    This it to funny!
I had to go check mine, its new too…OFF, LOW, HIGH.
…and come to think of it…my switch is really split so the left side control temp and the right side controls on off…no wonder somedays it too FOREVER to dry, I must have been changing the temps as well! LOL What were they thinking on the design of this one?

  • QC

    Hmmm……

Mine go off, low, high….and the “cold shot” button is above that switch. The Ionic button is on the back side.

Everything spelled correctly, which is awesome for the AR in me! *wink*

  • Lori

I checked mine yesterday and it is “High”, “Off” and “Low”. I never paid attention to that before. 🙂

  • mochamama

well you think your blowdryer has problems…mine is a black knob that goes up, center and down and has noooooooo words, arrows, nothing. My gosh how have I been drying my hair all this time???

  • lynn

I thought I knew the order, but not the spelling but wanted to check before I posted. Well, my room is upstairs and I kept forgetting to look. OK, mine does go Low is up, Off is in the middle and High is at the bottom (which incidentally if you put it on high it will shut off and not come back for a while)

  • Donna

weird! checked mine this morning…mine are from the bottom up low med high and above that cool warm hot -PERFECT! Ever wonder why the keypad on the keyboard has numbers opposite of the number on a telephone?? Why can’t they just be the same?!

  • cheryl

Taylor – you are a kindred spirit! I’m constantly amazed at the un-intuitive ways things are designed. BUT my not-so-new hair dryer is the same as yours with no words at all! I guess I had to learn the settings and memorize them…now it is second-nature.

But here’s one I’ll never learn: I have more than one tiny TV and the volume and channel buttons are not in the same order on the TV itself. None of my remotes is the same either. I’m constantly changing the channel when all I wanted to do was change the volume. Why can’t they all agree on one order of things and stick to it?

  • Stephanie

My blowdryer has the same settings locations and spellings as yours. It’s bothered me for a long time too…

  • Penny

OMG….this was so funny!! I have two settings:

    -hot
    -warm
    -cool

    and

    -high
    -low
    -off

    Thanks for the laugh!

  • Deborah

My goodness! I had fun reading through the blow dryer commnets! Funny Taylor! This pink one I have,(love the color) is a Revlon 1875 Revlon Ionic cheapie (under $40.00)
Switches are okay I guess, there are 2 sets:
    Top black button (for Ionic)
    Middle switch-High
    Medium
    Low
    Lower switch-ON
    OFF
All spelling is correct,I think I will upgrade though to a Chi. I really like their flat iron. Worth the money. Deb

  • Sarah D

Girl you are a nut!!! I bet you would have never thought that you would get 50+ comments!!!!! I would love to tell you that there is some one out there that dose not even have a blow dryer and that someone is me!!! this was a fun post to read!!!!

  • Anonymous

I have had my blow dryer for years, but it seemed odd to me right from the start. The off is in the middle, and the low is up, the high is down. Now, here’s the kicker. The labels are backwards. When you put it on high, you get low, and when you put it on low, you get high. I haven’t looked at the words in years, and I don’t feel like running upstairs, so I can’t tell you how it’s spelled.
    What a fun little diversion!

  • the geislers

I’m totally with you. My dryer also has two controls (both spelled correctly and in the correct order): low, medium, high and cool, warm, hot. On a related note, I recently returned a griddle I got as a gift because the owner’s manual contained so many misspelled words I didn’t think they could’ve actually made something of quality. My new one has all the words spelled right and works fabulously. I am glad to see you’re as big a nerd as me (but I already knew that!) 🙂

  • Anonymous

    Taylor,

Too funny and too timely. My blow dryer shorted out this morning (not a good thing when you are standing in a puddle of water). My settings are spelled correctly and it’s two buttons side by side ( High and Low). Now I have to go buy a new one and I will definitely be looking at the settings before I buy it. Thanks for the heads up!

    Shawn K.

  • Michelle

Taylor, this is hilarious! I don’t have a hair dryer but I have similar confusion with the electric window buttons in the car!

  • Maxene Choi

That’s so funny! I went to look at mine – it’s made by Revlon and it’s the same as yours!! –although they spelled everything correctly. I have another one by HotTools and it goes from top to bottom: cool, high, low, off.

  • Ginny

As soon as I saw this, I had to run & check out mine. Then I saw you asked, lol. Mine is High Off Low. I think I have a curling iron like your dryer though, I know that something I have is backwards like that because I have had problems. Maybe it was my old dryer?

  • curtis

    Hi! Taylor:

I thought of you as I was blow drying my hair this morning. Your blog made me smile. Mine has two settings:

    Hot
    Warm
    Cool

    High
    Medium
    Low

    Off

I have gotten used to this design and it would feel weird if it was changed. Thanks for your fun blog.

  • Anonymous

Hi,Ladies…I don’t often comment but this post reminded me of a book I’ve been reading recently by Donald A. Norman called EMOTIONAL DESIGN; he particularly found that attractive designs were also the easiest to use—perhaps because the attractiveness puts our brain into a positive mode? He did a lot of tests on public “things” like ATM machines in Japan, for instance….guess I’d better read the rest of the book to find out more!

  • Anonymous

    Hi Taylor,

Well, as a hair stylist, my guess would be that the hi/lo thing is just short form (not that either are really long words to begin with!). And, I mostly use the hi button, and I find it easier to push with my middle finger ‘down’ as opposed to ‘up’ for drying. Of course, this is simply an opinion, but hopefully it adds some insight!

    First question would be
    1) was it made in China?
    2) Was today your first time using it?
    3) Does it perform well when on?

    lol
    Ok I have 4 dryers in my house, why> they were given to me, a frined own apt buildings adn gave mykids eachtheir own when someon moved out. Or got evicted.. or somethign :}

All have high on bottom off in middle and low on top. 2 are the same brands, the kind youattach to your wall or travel with, the other two well one is a Revlon/purple with 1650 watts the other 1800 watts and white.

So………..take a deep breath and dry your hair lol
ps I have a clean mouth/teeth fetish and brush 5-6 times daily and can discuss any type of toothbrush made out there. lolol See how my mind works??

  • Anonymous

    Mine says
    Low
    Off
    High.

  • Amy

Too funny! My hairdryer is similar to yours as well…crazy! I usually end up turning it off while I am blow drying because I must push up the handle.

  • mcbetty

    One button: ON OFF

    One switch: OFF LOW HIGH

    One switch: HOT WARM COOL

    One blue button: COLD

  • Chris Scrappin and Stampin in Texas

I will have to go look at my blowdryer now…LOL

that is too funny!! High, should be above Low..and it should be spelled correctly

  • JaneAnn

Mine is designed the same way and I agree with you it is WRONG. Our very very old dryer had the switch in the order you suggested OFF – LOW – HIGH. I don’t like this change!

  • asela

LOL Taylor…had me looking too. Mine says
    3 High
    2 Low
    1 Off

It has 2 sets of switches to, numbers switch on opposite side are air speed.

Let me guess, you’re dryer was made in China!

  • Hope Conerly

Mine is spelled correctly and high is at the top and low at the bottom. :=)

  • Monique

Hey babe–since I do not do all the creative stuff you do -just love you-this is one of the first blogs that I got up to check what you had written:o)
Mine is getting scratched off but appears in the right order of High above and Low below–even though I think “off” should be the bottom.
Hope tomorrow is not opposite day!

  • IamDerby

Mine is just like yours… spelling and all

  • Jennifer Buck

You are cracking me up! Thanks, because with the week I’ve had…and it’s only Tuesday!…I needed that! Mine is also spelled Lo/Hi but the Hi is at the top….off is in the middle. Have a great night, Taylor and thanks for the chuckle! 🙂

  • Jenn

OMG – You are too flippin’ funny, Taylor! What a hoot! 🙂

  • jacki j.

thanks for the distraction. Sometimes we need to fixate on something unusual. I have no idea about my dryer. If I walk up two flights to look at it, I’ll forget what it said by the time I get back. LOL Sorry… Have a blessed day!

  • Whimsey

After reading this and laughing so hard – I HAD to go check…well, mine would be designed the “right way”; high and low are spelled properly. The “off” is in the middle, but you push it “up” to get to “high” and “down” to get to “low”. LOL

    Thanks for the great read!!!

  • Whoopsie Daisy!

LOL! You actually made me go get up off my bum and look! Sadly, it’s the same as yours and I never noticed until today. It belongs to my husband and he has had it since college, which was a REALLY long time ago.

  • Anonymous

Oh, this is really funny. I actually got up to check my blowdryer. From bottom to top is says “Off, Low, High.” I guess I never thought about it before. LOL!

    Julie

  • diane mcvey

Oh Dear, this is too funny! I am picky about stuff like that too…it would drive me crazy!
Mine is from bottom to top: off, low, high. It has served me well for years! I think you’d better return that one you have! EEEKKK!

  • Jusgottastamp - Karen

    You made me go look…

    high
    low
    off

I guess mine would qualify?? 😉

I would have sworn that it was like yours, though. Maybe it was the one before. I seem to go through the hair dryers every 2 years or so.

Oh, and you have a little too much time on your hands, my dear!! lol

  • Elizebeth

My current blow dryer has the following buttons:

    LOW
    OFF
    HIGH
    COOL

I actually prefer the blowdryer like this simply because all the blowdryers I have used since beauty school, through salon work were like this. I can flip the switch and never think about it. I once replaced my dryer with a “proper” one and I had to exchange it because I kept hitting the low when I meant high.

  • June Houck

My most recnt blow dryer is like this too. Very confusing, isn’t it? Probably designed by a bald man.

  • hemidemisemiquaver

Seriously…I have a travel dryer like that. I can’t STAND IT!! Drives me CRAZY when I am using it!! Wow Taylor. That made me so happy that you posted about the little pet peeve I have forgotten about. A man must have designed it. 🙂

  • Anonymous

I had to go look at my blowdryer when I saw your post. Mine are the same as Tonya’s above. You are so funny! I love it!

    Tam

  • Tonya

Taylor, That is such a funny post! I titally agree with you, I would be frustrated but good thing mine is the “correct” way. Mine is the same as Cindy’s above. Two buttons:
    one:
    Hot
    Warm
    Cool

    Two:
    High
    Low
    Off

Good luck with you new blowdrier!
    Tonya

  • Lynn Mercurio

LOLOLOL…funny how your post has sent everyone running for their blow dryers!

  • Anonymous

made in china just means that that is who made it–not design it.
    I find that derogatory

  • Regan

MADE IN CHINA- that all I gotta say……….. lol

  • Haylie

Mine go side to side…they are spelled correctly and if you turn the blow dryer to the side the High is on top. I tend to think like you on these things!

  • Harley Dee

Funny the things we notice sometimes, isn’t it? 🙂 From bottom up, mine goes Low, Off, High. All spelled correctly 🙂

  • Chris (cdjkssss on SCS)

Mine is just like yours, and so are the ones at my gym. I think they’re weird, but at least they’re the same.

  • Kelly Schelske

Hey Taylor…I have 2 blow dryers…both made by Conair…one is just like yours except High & Low are spelled correctly and the other one is proper…high above the off and low below and all spelled right!!
Too funny though…never really though os it until just now:-)
    Kelly S

  • Ellen

My “high” is up off middle and “low” on bottom.
I did have to look though! I think your thinking is just fine.

  • Anonymous

That is too funny!! I sadly already knew that mine was correct. Great minds think alike! LOL! I just replaced an old one that was just like yours and so was particular when I bought a new one! Too funny!
    ~Crystal M.

  • Cindy

    I have 2 buttons…

    -hot
    -warm
    -cool

    and

    -high
    -low
    -off

  • expatmom

My dryer has the ‘low’ at the top too…I just never noticed! LOL The ‘off’ is in the middle and the ‘high’ is at the bottom. They are spelled correctly, at least!

  • Pat

My setting are same order as yours, but they are spelled correctly (high and low).

  • broni (waterchild12)

Sounds like you’re using your accountant brain and expecting things to be logical!

  • Gail

Too, cute. My dryer spelled correctly and goes from the bottom (Off), middle (Low), and top (High). I also checked the on in our guest bath and it’s more like yours, but the Hi is where it should be, up!

  • Amanda Angert

I jumped up out of my chair before I even finished reading the post to check out my hairdryer! LOL! Low and High are spelled correctly and the high setting is above the off (so it goes high, off, low). Thanks for the giggle 🙂

  • Darlene L

My temps go side to side (not up and down). However they do go in the Right order and are spelled correctly. This post made me laugh! Darlene

  • C70

LOL Taylor! For a moment there, I got up to check mine! HAHA!!

From the bottom up, mine says: 0, I, II

  • Lynn

I HAD to look at my blowdryer after reading your post! My blowdryer settings are spelled correctly and in the correct order.

We had a black cat like that we call em…Inky..appropriate for a stamper…stamper would be fun for the other one…so together they would be inky stamper…heheh

  • justansa

The black cat looks like a “Sinbad” for sure!
The other one…….hmmmmmmm, Id have to think a little more on that.
But Sinbad for the black one!!!

    Hi Taylor,

My kids love the movie about the little pug dog (Otis) and his best friend an orange cat (Milo). That’s what they named our cats (a black tabby named Otis and a twin to your Orange cat named Milo). Unfortunately, Otis past away. Milo is a great cat, he lays on on my daughters lap on his back looking up at her so lovingly while she practices her reading skills he listens patiently. My daughter said she also likes the names from the Disney movie The Fox and the Hound “Tod and Copper”, they were best friends forever.

Whatever you decide to name your new kitties, we know they will bring you much joy!

    Tracy

  • GabrielaD

    What about

    Batman and Robin???

    They are very cute!!

  • Shari N.

How about Smokey and the Bandit? Just the first names that came to me.

  • Anonymous

How about Sinatra for your orange cat who likes to sing 🙂 and Jasper for the black cat?

    Wendy

    stangwendy@yahoo.com

  • Sylvia

    Hey Taylor,

    What about Apollo and Zeus?

Bible names: Moses and Samson (black, long-haired one)

Hope you find the perfect names.

    Sylvia
    scrappinsly@yahoo.com

  • Giovana

    Well, I have to suggestions:
PAD FOOT for the orange one and BRUNO for the black one.
    Good luck choosing the names!!!!

    Giovana S.
    giovanachavez@msn.com

  • Wendy L.

I vote Abe & Isaac. Congratulations on your new family additions. They are beautiful!
    Wendy

With those colors they just look like Night and Day to me.
    Kay

  • lisadennis

Wow – what a lot of suggestions. Congratulations on your additions! When we adopted two littermates several years ago, I wanted names that “went together”. Went through tons of possibilities and, being the bookworm that I was, settled on Simon and Shooster. Now, had I been into stamping then, they might have been named Craft and Classic, or Paper and Inky (ooh – good name for the black one!). Have fun with these guys!

  • Donna Mc

They look like an “odd couple” to me, so how about Felix and Oscar? I haven’t read all the other responses, so I apologize if someone already mentioned those names. They are cute kitties, for sure!

  • Anonymous

    Hi Taylor,

We love cats and had two cats–Martha and Stewart. Only Martha is with us now. How about Willie and Waylon? I would say Willie for the orange and Waylon for the black one. Hope you like country music.

    Carol Ann

  • Claudia

Hi Taylor – Junk looks just like our cat, Pierre, whom we dearly loved. Maybe he is Pierre in another life. I think Mikey could be Michaelangelo, since he’s already used to the first part of the name.

  • boynecitygrl

Oh oh! I just wanted to give my one cent too.

I have a kitty just like the orange one. Is he beautiful or what? He looks like a “Conan” to me. And that gorgeous black one oh my. I just want to snuggle him up. He looks very distinguished “Thadeus” Tad for short. I have three fur babies that I did not choose for myself. I Love them all. Smokey, Jack who is mentally disabled and Tiny my red head. He was a man in another life. He wont stay out of my underwear drawer. Yes he can get it open.

    Blessings,

    Have fun choosing.

    Beth F

  • Erika

    Hmm…

we have an orange cat and we call her Tiger…but she is definitely not shy. So, here is my thought for the names.

The black one: “Mo” As in Mohawk
The Orange one: “Bash” for bashful or “Timmy” for timid

    Just my ideas! 🙂

  • Bonnie

When I was young(er):) we had a cat named Marbles! Not because he was a silly cat, but because he had glassy eyes and he always rolled all over the floor! I like Marbles!

  • Anonymous

I like Henry and Wilbur. Very classic, vintage, and dignified. The orange cat should be Henry.

    Penny

  • Linzy

    Milo: (orange tabby)
    Otis: (black cat)

    🙂 Congrats!

  • Anonymous

Just a quick post for the cats name’s. How about Felix and Oscar, after the Odd Couple?

    Peggy F

  • Anonymous

Wow, some creative names here! When I first saw them, the first thing that came to mind was Chocolate and Ginger, maybe because I’m trying to stick to a New Year no-junk diet 🙂
    Good luck!

    Alison

  • Doris

How ’bout Spike for the black one for when he gets his haircut and Blogger for the orange one. Enjoy!

  • Janet

How about Jasper for the black cat and Mellow for the yellow cat.

  • Anonymous

    Hey Taylor,

Congrats on becoming a Mama! My vote is for Snack Mix (Snax for short) for the striped cat. Kinda random, but it just seems to fit because he’s got multiple colors like a Chex snack mix. I guess Chex could work too. Nothing creative came to mind for the black cat, maybe Dr. Pepper would be cute.

-Amy, Mama to a Himalayan kitty named Piglet 🙂

  • Anonymous

I have a friend whose orange tabby is called “Goober”. That’s a fun name. Why not go with that for one? There’s always Lucifer for the black one. Peg

  • C70

    congrats on the new additions!

i don’t particularly like cats but how about these names: corky and cooper?

    🙂

  • Pat S.

I don’t have a name for you, but I did want to comment on shaving the cat in the summer.
I have always heard that their fur is their protection from the heat and the sun. If you shave them, they can get sunburned.
Don’t know how true that is…but just in case 🙂

  • Kristy

Personally, I would leave the names alone, even if I didn’t like the names. These cats aren’t kittens and have probably already come to know their name. Why confuse them?

  • Anonymous

Wow! I’m a day late but would offer Toby, Barkley, Hooper or Maxwell…..Good luck!
    Judy D.

  • toners

Congrats on your new additions! Some suggestions: Charlie, Murphy, Bailey, Brian, Beano… 🙂

  • Anonymous

I love cats. My husband and I have three right now who bring lots of fun into our lives. We think Inky and Stamper would be good names for your new pets.

  • Karen B.

Love your blog and the cats are too cute!

How about Stamp and Scrap 😉

  • Tandra

Well growing up I had a long-haired fat black cat, we named him Blubbo….lol…yes, he was HUGE!!

Since they shaved him and left a patch, why not call theb lack one PATCH??

And how about SCAT for the handsome Tabby?

    Patch & Scat!!!!!
    Scat ‘n’ Patch!!

    ‘k that was fun!!

  • Paula P.

Congrats on your new additions! I too am a cat lover, and recently adopted 2 more cats into my home from a patient of mine that is passing away from cancer. They gave her 4 months to live, and the only thing she was worried about were her two cats. I am a proud parent to 4 cats- Bootsy, Oreo, Coal, and Tipper AKA “Mama Cat”, and a year old puppy named Tippy. I think Coal would be a good name for the black one because he is jet black. Growing up I had a cat that looked JUST like your orange cat, and we named her Bran, for a bran muffin. I had 3 cats at my moms house and they were Oatmeal, Bran, and Muffin. Guess you could say we had a theme going with food when we named them. Good luck with your new family members!

  • pratibhasb

How about Shadow for the black cat.i love cats myself and these are definately adorable.
    Pratibhsb

  • Angie Pearl

How ’bout “Boo” for the orange cat, since he scares easily, and “Mohican” for the black one. (keeping the mohawk in mind)???
:o) Can’t wait to hear the final decision!

  • Shona Watson

Congrats on the cats! (didn’t mean for that to rhyme!) They remind me of two cat that we used to have. Our orange one was named “Rum Tum Tugger” after the cat in “Cats” the musical. We just called him “Tugger”. And our black one was “Boo” cause my daughter thought he looked like a Halloween cat! I wouldn’t worry about changing their names. We got a dog when he was about 2 years old and changed his name from “Chico” to “Maximus” (doesn’t even sound the same!) and he was coming to Max within a day or so. Cats don’t come when called by their name anyways! Good luck and I can’t wait to hear what you choose!

  • stampqueen

    Hallo,
What a sweet pair. I have 3 at the moment – a 17 year old named “Fancy” because she is very fancy and always acts like a little lady. We also have 2 5month old kittens that the kids named Smitty (black and furry) and Shadow (gray short hair) – the were born undera bush next door…My old cat who went to kitty heavon last year was an shelter kitty who was very skittish and ended up with the name Cochiese (after the Indian Chief) so how about Yellow Paw and Blackfoot for your 2.

  • Anonymous

Congrats on your new additions! How about Hank (as in hank of fluffy yarn) for the black one and Skitters for the on edge yellow fellow?

    Mary Anne

  • busickhall

Have you been anywhere intersting on vacation lately? We’d just returned from a cruise when we adopted our cats. We named them St. Thomas and St. Lucia. Turns out there was nothing saintly about them though! Ha! We had friends who adopted a dog and named it Maui.

Good luck! I love a good snuggle with a sweet kitty.

    what about winston and sabaston..

there are alot of great names to choose from.. I have a black lab and his name is rascal.. so there is another name too.
best of luck picking a name and ..
the crying will stop once they get use to their new home and it may help alittle if you cuddle and play a little more with them til they get to know you as well.. cause the same thing happened when I took my brothers cat QUEEN SHEBA she cried at night til I gor her use to me now she goes everywhere I do ( like having another baby can go potty without them following )LOL

    have fun

  • JenMarie

Aw, your new fur babies are beautiful!

  • Anonymous

I recently had to put down my orange tabby similar to the one you have. His name was Cheddar which I think is a very appropriate name for an orange cat….you might want to try it for your! As for the black cat’s name…well, I had a cheese theme for my cat’s names (Cheddar, Brie and Colby) and I also thought it might be nice to have a male cat named Monterey Jack and perhaps call him Monte. What do you think?

Whatever you decide to name then, enjoy them!!

    Barb B.

  • travelingmama

Congrats on the new additions! My six year old said she would name them either vanilla and chocolate or chocolatey and cream. Hmmm… noticing a trend!

  • Liz

Hi Taylor. I had 2 cats just like the ones you adopted. Sadly, I had to find another home for them once I had my daughter because she was showing signs of allergies. My orange cat was named SIMBA, after the Lion King and the black cat was named MIDNIGHT. Seeing your new additions makes me miss them terribly. I spent many nights feeling guilty for giving them up and still feel guilty but I know they are in a loving home now. It was great that your landlord made an exception to the no-pet rule and offered them to you. Have fun with them!

  • tyrymom29

HMMM How about the names Boomer ,Tiger ,Sylverster(blackone) and I love Winston ….My lil guy says the black one should be called WInston !!!!! Jackson , Feldman !!!! Good Luck picking a name I know it is soooo hard to choose the right ONE!!!!! BuT They are sooooooo cute !!! COngrats what an awsome thing to do !!!

  • A. Sanborn

Congratulation on your new additions… The orange tabby reminds me of a “Clementine” orange. Might “Clem” work for short! Valentine’s is around the corner. *LOL* Black reminds me of Licorice. I think Linda above me forgot “Abbot & Costello!” *wink*

PS… sometimes if you place an alarm clock within the bedding they sleep it will keep them from crying Taylor. It represents the beating of the heart to them. He misses someone dearly… poor baby!

  • Linda

    I have seberal suggestions,
    Puff Daddy and Shadow or
Jeckle and Hyde the shy cat would be Hyde.
    Ben and Jerry
    Seinfeld and Kramer
    Amos and Andy

  • Cris Z

Congrats on your new fur-babies! A local shelter had 2 cats listed on their website that needed to be adopted together. The “brothers” were “JACK” and “BENNY”. Made me chuckle when I saw it! Enjoy your new family!

  • Jodi

Cute cats! How about Cooper for the orange one and Onyx for the black one? Congrats on your new additions!

  • PUGMAMA

I just love your new additions to your family. They are just beautiful. I’m sure whatever names you pick for them will be the perfect ones! The names that came to mind for me were:
    The black cat: Moglie
    The Tabby: Nike

  • NormaJ

    Here are my names:
    For the ginger cat: Tigger
    And the black cat: Zeus

These just popped out of my head,
I didn’t even have to think about
    them. – norma-

How about Binx or Binks for the black cat. Binx is the black cat from the movie Hocus Pocus. He was a protector cat. And you could name the other one Jinx just because it rhymes with .

  • Libby

Oh your kitties look so sweet! I used to have an orange tabby who looked a lot like “Junk” (funny name!!), who I miss dearly. His name was Mango the Tropical Cat, but he just went by Kitty. 🙂

  • Nancy

Congratulations on your new additions!! I think you will love having kitties around the house. I hope they adjust soon so you guys can get better sleep!! I can’t wait to hear what names you come up with!

  • Anonymous

My husband was a Blues Brothers fan so we names our two cats Jake and Elwood, but they didn’t follow in their namesakes way because Elwood passed away first. We now have 2 new kitties and we named them Kate and Allie. Good luck in the name search can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Both of my cats are adopted from the Humane Society and came with names, which I promptly changed! I have a big black male, who goes name is “Big Fat Boy” (we call him Fatty) and a pastel tortoise shell named Ziana (came up with that on my own 😉 I think you should live with them for a while and see what names seem to fit! Let them tell you their new names!

  • tami w.

male orange cat…Scaredy cat and the black cat: Big Blacky!

I was attacked by two Simese cats when I was a little girl. Therefore, I’m NOT too much of a cat lover but I’m happy for you and hubby. How fun to adopt a couple of new pets. Meow wishes!! I just thought of another potential name for the orange cat…Cry Baby. I’m trying to be funny now so please don’t think I’m terrible Taylor!! I couldn’t resist one more name suggestion after reading your post.

Thanks for the photos of the Rosebowl parade too. I’ve always wanted to go there!! Love your blog!

  • Shan

    Taylor…
    Congrats on your ‘new additions’~
As for their names, how about Button and Bo??
Good luck, and hopefully you’ll be able to pitch the earplugs soon…too funny! 🙂
    Shannon B. 🙂

I think the black one should be named Bruiser and the orange one Buff. I had a cat that I loved (he passed away last month) he was a stray and when we first started feeding him we called him Drooly (because he drooled ALOT) and then after we had him a few months I changed his name to Frank. I personally think he preferred Frank. I have 5 cats right now, 2 indoor (Duncan and Tiger) and 3 ferrals… Daw, Smokey and Bandit.

  • Bevie Pearl

I would name them: Milo and Max

congratulations on your furbabies and I hope you get some sleep!!

  • Linda F.

Oh, Taylor! they’re beautiful! My first black cat I named Poe. Yes, I’m a literature geek, and The Black Cat was one of my favorite Edgar Allen Poe tales. Then there was my all time favorite boy, a huge huge black cat. I named him Moses, after the story by James Harriot Moses the Kitten. So those are my suggestions for names for the black fella.

I used to have a black cat and his name was Jelly Bean. I had a friend in high school who would always walk in the room and ask my cat “Hey Jelly – how you Bean?” Whatever you decide to name them, I hope you enjoy them! – trish

I haven’t read through all the 61 previous comments so this may be a duplicate but I think the black one definitely has to be “Inky”. The orange one could be something else stamp related…

    Butch and Sundance! 😉

    Tabby- Luna (kinda whimsical)
Black_Java (i have a cat that i named that, she was big, fluffy and black with green ideas)
Enjoy your cats, they are great company.

How about JACK and MICAH – different names but also close to what they are used to.

    Other ideas:
    Scout
    Ranger
    Simon
    Max
    Sam
    Jude

  • inkedx2

Since the orange one scares easily how about Scaredy Cat?

    Robbie

  • Tammy Nichols

Ok, I am dying to use these names but my husband won’t let me buy two more boxer babies, so, why don’t you name them Dolce’ and Gabbana, like the designers? (Dole-che) is how it is pronouned. How cute would that be with their smug little, “You are my people” attitudes that cats sometimes have!

  • Michelle (MilwaukeeMommy)

OK, I don’t know where my comment went ~~ LOL!!!

As I was saying, we have 2 orange tabbies ~~ brothers ~~ named Jake & Elwood!! The Blues Brothers!! Sadly, Jake is diabetic ~~ he’s been taking insulin twice a day for 5 years now, so be careful how much you feel your orange one!! For some reason tabbies get BIG!! LOL!! (I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that at his last checkup Elwood lost weight. He’s down to 26 pounds, lol)

  • Kristy Vernon

They are so cute :). My husband and I have two kitties and they are so fun! Make sure you buy a laser pointer to play with them. I think you should call them Simon and Garfunkle :).

  • Alexandra

COngrats on your new kitties Taylor! I don’t have cats (I am more of a dog person and have three of those) but I know it is difficult to rename dogs…I am not sure if the cats get used to their names? Good luck with whatever you decide! *STAMPIN HUGS* Alex

  • Jusgottastamp

Congrats on two kitties!!! You know, I’m partial to cats myself. And honestly, two cats is just as easy as one cat…if not easier!

But I have an issue with the idea of renaming cats. Maybe I should say that it’s something I don’t think I’d ever do.

How old are they? Do they respond well to their current names? How well would they respond to new ones? Our 2nd cat, Monet, is one we adopted from someone else when she was almost 3 yo. I don’t care for that name, but I honestly don’t think she would have responded to a different name.

    Something to think about! 🙂

I haven’t read many of the responses, but the few I’ve seen are cute if you decide to rename ’em.

You know me…I always feel like people need my 2 cents!! lol

  • SueB

Run the letters C-A-T together fast and it sounds like Sea-A-tea … that’s what I plan to name our next one and it’d be fine by me if you used it – lol …
For the black, I’d go along w an earlier suggestion to name him Fuller like the fuller brush men!
    later, alligator!

Hmmm….I’ve always liked giving animals “people names” so I was thinking Charlie, Simon, Otis, Theo…..just a few that popped into my head.

    Enjoy your new furry kids!!

  • Jackie

Alvin (the yellow kitty) and Theodore, or Midnight (guess which one) and Mr. Biggles. They are beautiful kitties and I hope they get over the crying all night – I’m sure they will adjust.

  • linda

Tar (black) & Honey (orange)- first thing that popped into my head. LOL! Cute kitties… wish we could get some but DH is terribly allergic.

  • Ben & Amy

    Cute cats!
Well, Basic Black (Ike for short-plus it sounds like his original name)
    and
Pumpkin Pie (sounds like Junk too), of course!

  • Kathy M

We had a male orange Tabby and his name was Casey. Although he never officially had a middle name, we referred to him as Casey Jay. We had an unexpected adopted cat for a while and named him Toby, which I really liked. So, what do you think…Casey and Toby.

    Good Luck!!

  • Scrapperbo

Glad you were able to adopt them both. My husband suggested Snowball for the black one and Chicken Little for the orange one since he is shy and timid. =o)

  • diane mcvey

Oh, lucky you! I’m so happy for you…we have 7 cats, and they are all unique! (my hubby is a DVM and I was an animal scientist major)…anyway, it’s fine to change their names if you want! And may I suggest a “lion cut” for the black one, it is oh so cute, and they feel so nice and cool in warm weather. Any groomer will know what to do, but basically you trim them down except for the head and the end of the tail. It’s super cute!
I’m not good at names, so I’ll leave that to the others! We have Deborah, Lucy, Lelu, Corbin, Tiger, Tuxedo, and Jake. The boys named some, and I named a couple! 😀

  • Lisa

“Shadow” for the black one, and “Meeker” for the shy (meek), orange one.

Congratualtions and good luck, Taylor! They’re adorable. 🙂

  • Kelli

I had an orange cat growing up that we named Little Red Fred, but we called him Fred for short.

  • Ida

Taylor they are divine! I love cats (have 4 of them myself)…I’m a big fan of the movie, Gone With The Wind so you could name them Rhett (black one) and Ashley (orange one) after the 2 leading male characters in the movie.

  • Anonymous

Taz for the orange (T for Taylor!)
Jag for the black (J for Jon!)

    Julie C.

  • paula

I don’t go for matchy names, so I am gonna say LINK, {from the Nintendo Zelda games} & NIKI {Nick} That is my little yorkie boys name. He is small and needed a short name…I was thinking Motley Crue for some reason?? Nikki Sixx?? haha

  • jennie m

Congrats on your new additions! I just *love* naming things! How fun! Our dog’s name is August and we love her name so I have to share that one, and that could be for a boy too. I also love the name Ace. If you wanted to go with names that go together, maybe Jack and Ace? Or how about January and August? You did get them in January! 🙂 Or even one could be October and you could call him Tobie. 🙂 Whatever you pick will be super cute!

  • Diane

Since we all love “Stickles” I would name the orange cat Stickles and the black cat Soot…..I have a torite cat name Bubba…real original…LOL!

  • Jenn in GA

taylor–i’m not really a cat person, but i have two dogs that have come to our family already named, and here’s the advice we received about renaming: choose a name that uses the same first letter or that sounds similar. for example, our first dog’s given name was “Party”, but we changed it to “Carly”. sounds similar. our second dog’s given name i can’t remember, but we went with “Shadow” because he’s black and always around.

i like another reader’s suggestion of Mister for the “M” named cat, but will suggest “Mystery” since he’s easily scared and such, and for the big, black guy named “Junk” (what were they thinking?), i like “Jazz”.

  • Ashley Bowen

OMG! They are so so so beautiful!!!! :o) Congrats on your new babies! Hugs! Ash~

How cute! How about Shadow for the black cat, and Tiger for orange cat (especially with his timid nature, maybe he would become more assertive).

    Shawn K.

  • MamaDuck

How about Wasabi and Ginger? I know Wasabi isn’t black, but it has a lot of kick to it. Have fun with your new friends!

  • Jennifer Hodge

They are beautiful….congratulations on the addition! I have been thinking about getting a kitten myself being home allday by myself!

  • Anonymous

How about Ben and Jerry…..I love their ice cream…..

    Cathy M….

  • Novell

I agree with letting the cats keep their names, especially if they respond to them. But…my dad used to call my kids ‘Pete’ and ‘Re-peat.’ Get it?! hahaha. That would work better if your cats looked alike, I guess. Goodluck! Maybe SweetMissDaisy can help you. Seems like she’s always having to come up with some animal names.

  • Shannon

How about Ebony (black) and Tigger (orange)?

I just love the look of these two. I have an old white cat that I’ve had since she was 5 weeks old now almost 15 … Missie is her name.

  • Carolyn Mustopa

OMG, when I was a teenager we had 2 cats exactly like these! In the tradition of all of our family pets, they were named after spices. The black one was called Pepper and the other one Cinnamon.

  • Anonymous

These cats are sure going to be loved! How about Tiger for the orange cat and Shadow for the black cat?
    Sandy Kay

  • Lisa Rogers

Well I think the black cat looks like Binks from the movie Hocus Pocus.
As for the orange one I think Ace fits him.
Good Luck with whatever name you choose!

  • Cheryl R

I agree with Jonni who said that they know their names, so don’t change them. But some people don’t call their cats by their names much, so maybe they don’t know them as well as mine do (and mine really do!). And I wouldn’t want to call a cat by a name I truly disliked. How about calling them by their names, but gradually adding a sound-a-like nickname until it becomes something you like?
    Mikey…Monkey…Monk
    or Mikey Spikey Spike
    or Junk becomes Monk
or Junk Junkie Punkie (like pumpkin if it’s the orange one.)
You could go with names of authors, artists or characters you like. Mine are Zane (author Zane Grey), Jazz, Cubby and Harley (not the bike – harlequin after her calico markings). Good luck and congrats on the new additions.

    Macbeth —-MAC for orange cat
    Hamlet…….Ham for blackie
Love your Blog …can we see the ATC’s you exchanged…Please! DD

  • Judy S

    How about Caramel and Licorice!

  • Niki

Congrats on the new kitties! I love cats! Our last two cats were named Timmy and Calvin. Miss those two! We just got new kittens in August. My son helped me name them. Our solid gray kitty is Smokey and the grey stripe kitty is Otis. For your kitties, I like these names: the orange one Milo and the black one Blacky. 🙂 Good luck!

  • Anonymous

Too Cute!!! Yippee for you and Jon adding to your family.

I think you should name them Jager and Meister, like the liquor…LOL!!!!

    Laura Leonard

  • Jayne

How about Geronimo for the black one and Marmalade for the orange one? Or you could call one of them Ceefer as in C fer cat. Just a suggestion. Thanks for sharing pictures. They look like sweeties.

  • Anonymous

Oh, Taylor, they’re adorable! I’m a total cat person. My two delightful boys are Reilly and Monroe. Monroe is black and white and got his name because he has this black marking by his mouth, and the kids at the school where I worked said he looked like Marilyn Monroe (with her mole)! Since he was a “boy”, they went with Monroe. (I was grateful they didn’t come up with “Hitler”, since the marking really looks more like Hitler’s mustache!)

Since they’re Halloween colors, I would name the black one “Boo!” and the orange one “Pumpkin” (or “Jack” for “Jack-o-lantern”).

Have fun! Oh! And I, too, would hesitate to shave either of them!

  • Tracy

How about Neko for the black cat (prounounced Neekoh) which means cat in japanese
and milo for the orange one

  • Anonymous

Congrats on the cats! When we had cats ours were Rocky and Bullwinkle. (Bully for short) I am big on the ‘couples’ name thing!
Our dogs are Gunther and Gizmo!
Good luck coming up with new names for your new additions!

    Hi Taylor!
Good question! We acquired a cat from my sister in law who acquired it because it started hanging around there house all of a sudden and wouldn’t leave! Two of her family members are very allergic so she couldn’t keep him. Anyway (sorry for the blah blah blah!), his name was “Vito” and we didn’t like it at all. We tried thinking of other names. In the end we didn’t change it because he knew his name and answered to it! Most cats don’t really care but he did! It didn’t take long to get used to it.
    Just my 2 cents!

  • Krisstee

I am not sure that I would shave a cat……….but……….Mr. “T” comes to mind for the black cat. LOL

As for the red head……hmmm…..”Fraidy” Cat.

Our cat came from the animal shelter and “she” looks just like your new Tabby. Her name was Clara and I did not like the name; so I was determined to change it. We have had her for 7 years now and we call her Clara……….LOL.

  • mandi

I always name my pets after disney characters so I’d say… Simba and Toulouse. ( Lion king and the Aristocats ) Both of your new cats are beautiful 😛 Hope they grow to love you soon.

  • susanne sorensen

congrats on the new additions. i love cats too. your orange cat reminds me of the first cat i ever had when i was in 5th grade. my cat cat was loving and cuddly (isn’t that what counts?) but he too was very shy and afraid of his own shadow. thus we named him Tuffy.

    enjoy your four footed children.

  • LouBelle

For the tabby, I would choose Jonah, because he is timid and runs away (tee-hee). The black one could be called Moses.

  • Dawn

    How about “pete” & “pistol”….

  • Savitri

I have a thing for Norton ever since I read The Cat Who Went to Paris by Peter Gethers. So the Black would be Norton. The orange, I’d say Shady or Zeke from the lion in the Wizard of Oz — shy and cautious or as we’ve known him as the cowardly lion :). Since he’s kind of shy and not all so sure/scared of new things.

  • Inky Paws

I recently just got my first cat, have always had dogs, and couldn’t believe how much fun they are and how much personalty they have. I’m so glad that you took them in and are keeping them together.

I volunteer at an animal sanctuary and love coming up with animal names! Since you are an artist and color is such an important thing to an artist and the cats are so precious how about anaming them after (semi-)precious stones based on thier colors.

    I like Onxy and Jasper!!!

  • Malissa Ayala

I LOVE cats – we have two, Bigsby and Beatrice. How about Merlin (black) and Murph (orange)? I have a slight obsession with matching initials! 🙂 Congratulations on your fur-babies and good luck with picking out their names!

  • The Worgess Family

Hmmm. . .my aunt had a cat that looked like your orange one, and she named him Mr. Pib (pain in the butt). I thought it was cute. So, I’d go Mr. Pib for him and how about Coke for the other one?!?!? Keep with the pop names. 🙂

  • Emm

I am also allergic to cats (but it has only gotten bad in the past 10 years), but I love black cats. When I was 6 my aunt gave me a tiny newborn black kitten that lived under our couch for the first month because I wouldn’t leave it alone. That cat had the very original name of Midnight. I later had a black and white cat named Alfie and my brother had one named Boogie. Now we can only have the stuffed animal variety. My son got a black cat stuffed animal for Halloween and named it Cauldron. My daughter has two stuffed cats that she named Bootsie and Sevianna (she was 3 at the time and came up with that one on her own). So, those are my suggestions. Hope you like them.

  • Lisa Charleton

Growing up I had a black cat named Billie Jean – back when Michael Jackson and Thriller were popular! I have a friend who has a black cat named Thor – I always loved that. Thor and Hercules would be cool! (A friend’s golden is names Hercules a/k/a Hercky.) Sherbert is also a good name for an orange cat. Congrats on your new additions! I miss having cats. We just have two dogs now – Zuko (golden) and Duncan (black lab).

  • Jonni

I am such a boob about names. I believe that they have learned these names, and that you should keep them. Our cats are like our kids, ok our dogs also. So they all know their names. How could I have changed any of the kids names??? Although I never got them right half the time anyway:>). Good luck on this one. Jonni

  • Kerry J.

They are adorable!! I think you should call them Cinder (black) and Melba (orange).

  • Jenn Jones

well since the black one is fat and fluffy perhaps you should call him “Fuller” 🙂 Could have a double meaning….since your husband went to FTS.

  • Flossie's Follies

So glad you kept the cats together. the black cat looks like he has green eyes, so how about Envy, kind of like that name and your orange tabby, well Morris comes to mind but sure that is overdone. How about Mister, jus Mister. Can’t go by me my cats are Hemingway (he has the extra digits on his paws) and Tiger, cause he was a ferrel cat and would not leave me alone till I brought him inside the house, so he was named based on his personality.
