Hello, TE fans! Who’s ready for Fall? I am! It’s my favorite season. I
love the cooler temperatures, scarves and boots, football, and of
course, the Fall colors. Today’s card features the beautiful Scattered
Leaves Embossing Folder, along with a birthday sentiment from Free
Spirit.I’ve been having a blast creating my
own backgrounds using different techniques. Today’s background is a
combination of watercoloring and dry embossing. I tried this two ways:
1) watercoloring the background panel, then embossing, and 2) inking the
embossing folder, spritzing, and then embossing. What you’re seeing is
the second method, which is a little bit more irregular and
unpredictable. I used Seedless Preserves, Barn Door, Rusty Hinge, and
Mustard Seed Distress Inks to ink the inside of the embossing folder,
pressing the pad to the folder, just as you’d ink a stamp. Then I
generously spritzed the folder with water, placed a watercolor paper
panel in the folder, and ran it through my Cuttlebug. Super fun and
easy! Try varying the amount of water for different looks. With lots of
water, the ink will flow and cover all or most of the panel; with less
water, there will be more white areas, particularly on the raised areas
(the leaves with this folder).To continue with
the irregular, artsy, messy look, after the panel had dried, I flicked
on some Seedless Preserves ink splatter, as well as some metallic gold
mist. Next, I trimmed down the background, lightly distressed the edges,
and adhered it to a herringbone woodgrain patterned paper.For the sentiment, I
white-embossed “happy birthday” from Free Spirit onto a scrap of vellum
card stock and notched the bottom to make a banner. I added a black and
white diagonal stripe pattern to the top so I’d have an easy place to
hide some foam adhesive. The sentiment banner is wrapped with some gold
metallic twine topped with a wood veneer star.
