The first project I have to share with you uses the Choose Hope Stamp & Die Combo that I mentioned above. This special set was designed to create cards to encourage and support those with cancer. I wish none of us knew anyone with cancer, but sadly we can all probably think of several people who are battling some form of cancer. While it’s often hard to know what to say, I’ve found that a simple handmade card is a great way to let someone know you’re thinking of them.
The awareness ribbon can signify many different types of cancer based on the color of the ribbon so I made a set of cards with several different colors (pink: breast cancer, lavender: all forms of cancer, teal: ovarian cancer, gold: childhood cancer).
I started by die cutting the ribbon into the white rectangle and stamping the sentiment below. Then I popped this piece up over colored cardstock to fill the negative space. I framed the image and sentiment with a die cut from the Frame in Frame Cutting Plate and adhered it to a white piece of paper embossed with the Swiss Hearts embossing folder.
For my next project, I had a baby card in mind combining the new Sign of the Times set with Forest Friends set which was featured yesterday. I think it turned out soft and sweet and while I don’t consider this my usual style, I think it’s growing on me!
Whenever I have a scene in mind, I start by die cutting all of the pieces in the colors that I imagine them and then begin laying out the scene until it’s just right. Occasionally (like on this card) I end up die cutting pieces in multiple colors because what I originally imagined doesn’t quite work. For example, my clouds originally started out white, but the contrast against the blue sky was more stark than I wanted so I die cut them again out of Salt Water Taffy.
I think it’s important to remember that it’s OK if you don’t get it right on the first try. Keep trying different arrangements and colors until you’re happy with the scene. And you can always keep those discarded pieces in a die cut scraps drawer for future use!
After arranging the scene, I made a last minute decision to frame it with the largest frame in our Frame in Frame Cutting Plate. I cut the frame from Toffee cardstock and then added a bit of distressing with Walnut Stain ink.
So there you have Day 2 of our January Release sneak peeks! I’d love to hear your favorite from the last couple days! I’ll be on a flight to Anaheim for the Craft & Hobby Association trade show tomorrow, but I’ve already got my post scheduled because you won’t want to miss the rest of the inspiration for Petite-a-Palooza! In the meantime, you’ll want to check out what the rest of our creative team is featuring using today’s products. Make sure you hop around to their blogs!
