Hey there, crafty friends! It’s Taylor here today with a mid-week treat! Valentine’s Day is one my favorite occasions for creating cute and crafty treat packaging! Our oldest daughter, Madi, is at the age where she wants to be involved in any kind of crafty project, so it was lots of fun to create this year’s Valentine treats with her help (and also a great lesson in growing patience and accepting that good enough for her is good enough for me!). We decided to make a separate set of Valentine’s for both her preschool classmates and her daycare buddies so I have two different Valentine treats to share with you!
When I have a large amount of treat packaging to create, I will often search a store (usually Target!) for pre-made packaging where I can add my own handmade flair. This year I happened upon these cute little sacks with a polka dot heart printed on them from the Target $1 Spot. I started by stamping the sacks with a Be Mine sentiment from the Little Bits of Love stamp set:
I wanted to dress up the pre-printed heart with a handmade embellishment so I die cut two layers of felt using the Heart Stacklets die and hand-stitched them together with embroidery floss to create an embellishment to adhere over the top of the large heart.
After stitching and adhering all of the hearts, Madi stepped in and filled the bags with candy and taped them closed with a bit of washi tape!
With Madi in preschool I thought it would be cute to use the “I’m so glad we swim in the same school” sentiment for her school friends. We started out by die cutting all the pieces (Madi poked the eyes out of each die cut fish which she thought was hilarious).
We built the fish tank using the Stitched Circle Stacklets and the Roly Poly – Fish dies. After die cutting everything, they were super easy to put together.
I don’t quite trust her with the glue bottle yet so after I assembled the tags, she wrote her name on the back.
We tied the tags to a bag of Swedish Fish (or try Goldfish Crackers if you want to stay away from the candy!). So there you have it for our Valentine treats this year! What did you make for your family, friends, or classroom treats this year?
