In today’s video, I’m sharing how I created this easy interactive card where the barn doors swing open to reveal the sentiment.
I started by stamping the images in Oreo ink, coloring them with Copics, and die cutting (or fussy cutting in the case of the barn). I used a craft knife to cut the doors of the barn down the center and across the top in order to fold them open. Then I stamped the sentiment on a piece of cardstock and placed it behind the barn doors to reveal when the doors are open.
To finish building the scene, I stenciled grass along the bottom of the card, added a couple clouds in the sky, and popped the cow’s head up on a wobble spring so it bobs back and forth. Holy cow – he’s so cute!!
Now, let’s take a closer look at the different elements of the kit as well as some inspiration from our Creative Team and special guests! Note: All of these products are only available as a part of the Farm Fresh Kit.
First up is the Farm Fresh Critters stamp set and coordinating dies. The set includes images for four different farm animals and a fence. The head and body of each critter were designed as a separate image so that you can use a mini wobble spring to create a bobblehead!
Lori Craig colored a whole herd to use on projects and I had to share this photo for coloring inspiration! Lori used the Karin Brushmarkers to color the critters for her projects.
Once you have a whole herd of animals colored, it’s quick and easy to add them to projects. Lori Craig added the horse to this cute card that’s perfect for thanking a ‘neigh’-bor! She also stenciled the clouds and grass to create the perfect backdrop for her farm scene.
Laurie Willison added the whole collection of critters to her card created with the Farm Fresh Kit. She colored her critters with Copic markers and had them gather together to send wishes ‘from the whole herd’. I love how she angled the pig’s head – he seems to be saying “well, hello there!”.
Look at the cute background that Mindy Eggen made using just the critter head images from the set. She stamped them in Toffee ink on Toffee cardstock for the perfect tone on tone look. She colored up one of the chickens with Copic markers for the featured critter on her card and paired it with the ‘to the coolest chick’ sentiment.
Speaking of sentiments, the Farm Fresh stamp set includes 11 punny farm sentiments and a cute barn image to coordinate with the animals in the Farm Fresh Critters set. The sentiments cover all sorts of occasions from celebrating a birthday to just saying hello. Note: there is not a coordinating die for the barn image.
Kelly Lunceford created this adorable pair of cards featuring the barn image from the Farm Fresh stamp set. She fussy cut the barn and added it to a stenciled background created with the Here Comes the Sun stencil and the grass stencil. Each of her cards features a different critter from the Farm Fresh Critters set and a coordinating sentiment.
Jen Shults stamped the barn onto her beautifully blended background and then added color by paper piecing the red portions with patterned paper from the Rainbow Brights 6×6 paper pad. She added the chick along with the ‘to the coolest chick’ sentiment from the Farm Fresh stamp set to complete her cute card!
Now let’s talk about the Gingham Check Background stamp! It’s the perfect homespun pattern to add to farm-themed projects, but I think this one will become a staple in my collection year-round! The stamped gingham impression looks just like fabric and you will find yourself reaching to use this versatile background on a wide range of projects.
Mindy Eggen used the Gingham Check Background stamp with Mulled Wine cardstock and ink for the background on her cute card featuring the horse and pig from the Farm Fresh Critters stamp set. The ‘hay there!’ sentiment is perfect for sending a sweet hello.
Melody Rupple embossed the Gingham Check Background with white embossing powder onto Cherry Pop cardstock for the perfect country feel! I love how she die cut a circle from the embossed cardstock to create a frame for her farm scene and I love her details like the blended clouds and stitched sentiment strips!
Jill Hawkins stamped just a portion of the Gingham Check Background onto a blended rectangle on her card. It was the perfect spot to add the cow critter and stamp the ‘holy cow!’ and ‘it’s an udder birthday!’ sentiments.
The Set the Scene – Grass stencil strips will help you blend the perfect grassy background for your projects. The set includes three different grass designs that can be used separately or together for a realistic grass look.
Heather Nichols used the Set the Scene – Grass stencil strips, Avocado ink, and her Blender Brushes to add a background to her card featuring a flock of chickens. I love that she colored each of the chickens a different color and how she added just a strip of the Gingham Check Background to the bottom of her card.
Wanda Guess stenciled a grassy meadow onto her card featuring the horse and barn. Wanda’s coloring skills really shine on this card and I love the highlighting that she did with a white gel pen. The cloudy sky background is created with Build a Scene – Rolling Clouds.
And finally, the Farm Fresh Kit includes 6 envelopes and 6 custom envelope seals that coordinate with the theme of the kit. The six A2 envelopes match the following cardstock colors: Oreo, Sugar Cube, Toffee, Cherry Pop, Peapod, and Sprinkles. The cute envelope seals are made from durable, weatherproof material and are sure to bring a smile to the recipients of your cards. Don’t forget that you can purchase additional envelope seals in the TE webstore right now!
Today I’ll be unboxing the new Farm Fresh Kit during “T Time” at 1pm Central on the Taylored Expressions Facebook Page and would love to have you join me! Hope to see you there!
